"This looks great Kevo."
Buster, Luke, and Kevo were standing in a natural clearing with a big hill in it. The clearing was surrounded with strong smelling pine trees and had a stream running by the hill. With berry bushes by the stream.
"Let me show you the inside dog boy, then you'll have a reason to thank me."
Kevo moved forward, and showed them a well hidden entrance.
"This is amazing Kevo, I'm surprised that the badger family would move out." Luke said.
"We're also lucky that some other animal hasn't moved in." Added Buster.
"This Burrow was only abandoned a few days ago, nobody else knows that the badger family has left." Said Kevo.
"Well that's another reason to be glad we met you."
With that said the trio moved farther into the burrow.
"This burrow must be part of a cave." Thought Luke.
"Kevo, I can stand up in this burrow. Are you sure that a badger family lived here and not a bear." Said Luke in a teasing tone.
"I am quite sure." Saud Kevo with what Luke thought was a smile. "But I think when the badger dug into the hillside they found a network of caves."
"This is a perfect place for us fuzzball, and even better I don't have to do any climbing to get here."
"Let me show you the sleeping quarters, meat-breath." Kevo replied.
Buster and Luke didn't say anything as they followed the squirrel. After a few minutes they came to a cave with a pile of moss and other soft stuff.
"This is where we'll spend the night."
"You're staying with us?" Luke said with a note of surprise in his voice.
"Of course I am, I said I was going to help fix you, didn't I, dog boy?"
"Sorry I just thought that because you're a squirrel you would want to spend the night in a tree and not on the ground."
"Nope, I'm staying with my new friends." Said Kevo stoutly.
"We're friends, fuzzball?" Asked Buster.
"If you want to be." Said Kevo, almost shyly.
"Of course." Answered Luke.
Buster mutters. "As long as the other dogs don't hear about it."
"I'm glad we're going to have Kevo as a friend." Thought Luke. "But it is a bit weird that he is so willing to help us. Still it will be very helpful to have someone who knows the forest well, while we search for a way to fix myself."
"But what if a cure is not in the forest." One part of Luke worried.
"This happened in the forest so a way to fix it must be in the forest." Another part of Luke said.
"I hope you're right." Said a third part of Luke.
"Hey guys, do you want some nuts?"
"Um sure Kevo." Luke said.
"I'll go, and grab some." Said Kevo.
"Fuzzball before you leave, do you have anything that would be better for a dog to eat?" Asked Buster.
"Well, we do have some berries that I have seen a fox eat."
"I guess I could try some." Said Buster doubtfully.
