Terror coursed through Buster's veins; fueling him to be able to charge past Kevo. Even though he was sprinting along as fast as he could.
As Buster ran off some of his fright. One thought became clear in his mind. "Luke was behind me with that guard Ivy. Was he captured?"
Buster still didn't trust Ivy. I mean who would walk straight towards something you were trying to avoid. Unless you weren't trying to avoid it.
Buster slowed down a little and looked back, but he only saw Kevo drawing clouser. No Luke.
He screeched to a hult. Thoughts rushing through his mind like a roaring river. "Where was Luke, did Ivy stop him! Was he hurt? Maybe Luke needed him!"
"What are you doing!" Yelled Kevo. "We need to escape! That means moving!" The squirrel was beside him now, but he had lost some of his speed in order to say these words.
"No, fuzzball! Luke's not here! He might need my help!"
Kevo stopped and stared at Buster, in disbelief.
"No! We need to escape, bone-head!" Said Kevo firmly, swishing his tail in exasperation.
"No! We need to help Luke!" Said Buster, just as fiercely and firmly.
"The plan is to escape and then meet up."
"Have you already forgotten? Luke was the one to free us!" Shouted Buster.
"He was also the one who got us captured in the first place!" Kevo yelled right back. "Besides, he didn't actually get us out of our cages. That girl Ivy did."
"But he still might need help! You can escape if you want, but I'm going to help Luke." With that Buster turned on his heel and started changing back the way they had come.
He was a dog on a mission, nothing was going to stop him.
"Hey! Wait up, bone-head!" Cried Kevo.
Buster looked back and there was Kevo running after him. He slowed down in order for Kevo to catch up. "I thought you wanted to escape." He said acquisitively.
"I do. But I can't let you go after Luke alone."
"Thanks, but you're just going to slow me down." Said Buster.
"Let me ride on your back. I'm not heavy so I won't slow you down. But I am useful." Countered Kevo.
Buster considered the squirrel's proposal. "The fuzzball might come in handy. And I needed to get to Luke as fast as possible. Arguing would just slow me down farther."
"Alright. Climb on."
Kevo gracefully jumped onto Buster's back and grabbed his collar.
But Buster barely felt anything. Kevo was right, he was light. But he didn't have time to think about that. He had to find Luke. Buster started running up the hallway as fast as he could.
Buster decided his nose would be the beast tool for the job of tracking Luke. He put his nose to the ground trying to find his scent.
"Whoa! Careful there. You don't want to toss me off!" Shouted Kevo. Buster was startled for a moment. Between tracking Luke and running he had forgotten about Kevo.
"Sorry." He said. But Buster didn't say anything more. He had a job to do.
It took another minute for the dowo to reach the fork where they had separated from Luke and Ivy. And this was where Buster picked up the scent. He let out a joyous bark. "I've got his scent!"
"Good. Let's go find Luke!" Chattered Kevo, equally happy.
That was all the prompting Buster needed. With another happy bark, Buster started tracking Luke at a run.
