╰┈➤I was working the late shift with Steve and Robin again. Starcourt was even more packed than it usually is. Steve and I were both on our break in the back of Scoops Ahoy.

The chimming of the bell from the front counter pulled my attention away from my book to Robin, who was saying, "Hey, dinguses, your children are here." Steve got up from sitting down at the small table to open the windows leading to where the cash register was. "Again? Seriously?" He said to them.

I put my book down on top of the table to walk to the back door that led out to a hallway. I opened it so that Mike, Lucas, Max and Will could take a shortcut to the movie theatre. Which they had been doing for the past few nights.

I held the door open for them to escape out of. "Come on, come on." They all rushed out and walked quickly down the hallway. "I swear, if anybody hears about this--" I begin to say before being cut off by them saying, "We're dead!" They all yelled. I sighed and walked back into Scoops Ahoy.

A while later, my break was officially over and I went back to working with Robin in the front serving customers. The lights of Starcourt slowly went out, and everyone who was inside stopped what they were doing to look around in the darkness. "That's weird." I said, out loud. Steve came out of the back room and turned to the light switch.

He began turning the switch off and on. "That isn't gonna work, dingus." Robin said. I turned around to watch Steve play with the light switch. "Oh, really?" He said to her. He then began turning it on and off faster. After a few seconds of Steve playing with the light switch, the lights in Scoops Ahoy finally turned back on. "Let there be light." He said before opening the door and walking back into the break room. I turned to look at Robin and smiled and shook my head, and she did the same as we both went back to work.

╰┈➤The next day Steve, Robin and I were working the day shift together. Steve was now serving customers and me and Robin were together in the back. I watched from the table, Steve talking to 2 girls who had ordered ice cream. "Alrighty, one scoop of chocolate. That's a buck-twenty-five." I sighed. "Ooh, Purdue. Fancy." "Yeah, I'm excited." The girl answered Steve. "Yeah, you know, I considered it, Purdue, but then I was like, you know what? I really think I need some real-life experience, you know, before I hit college, see what it feels like. Kinda like, uh, I don't know, see what it's like to earn a working-man's wage, you know? Uh..." He said before the machine started messing up. "Oh, I'm sorry. I think that's, like, really important." He said. "Yeah, totally." "Yeah, anyways, this was, like, so fun. We should kind of like, you know, I don't know, maybe hang out this weekend or-" He said, giving the girl her change, accidentally, making her drop it. "Oh, sorry about that. Uh...I don't know. Maybe next weekend or--" "Yeah, I'm busy." "Oh, that's cool. I'm... I'm working here next weekend, so... the following weekend's better for me." "No. I'm sorry, I can't. Okay, thanks." "I... this is my first day here." The girls walked away and Steve sighed.

"And another one bites the dust. You are oh-for-six, Popeye." Robin said, moving her whiteboard in front of the window. "Yeah, yeah, I can count." Steve said to her. "You know that means you suck." Robin said. I got up and walked over beside Robin. "Yep, I can read, too" Steve said. "Since when?" I said to him.

"It's this stupid hat." Steve said. Robin moved her whiteboard to the side and Steve came closer to the window. "I am telling you, it is totally blowing my best feature." "Yeah, company policy is a real drag." I said, looking at him. "You know, it's a crazy idea, but have you considered... telling the truth." Robin said, leaning down. "Oh, you mean, that I couldn't even get into Tech and my douchebag dad's trying to teach me a lesson, I make three bucks an hour and I have no future? That truth?" Steve said. "Hey, twelve o'clock." Robin said, pointing to a group of girls that were walking into Scoops Ahoy. Steve turned around to look at them and then back to me and Robin. "Oh, shit. Oh, shit. Okay... uh... I'm going in. Okay? and you know what?" He said, pointing to me and threw his Scoops Ahoy hat into the break room. "Screw company policy." "Oh my god, you're a whole new man." I said to him, smiling. "Right? Ooh." Robin and I both laughed at him.

Steve turned around to the girls who were waiting at the cash register. "Ahoy, ladies! Didn't see you there." Steve yelled. "Would you guys like to set sail on this ocean of flavor with me? I'll be your captain. I'm Steve Harrington." The girls laughed at him. "Can I get you guys a little taste of the Cherries Jubilee? No? Anybody? Banana Boat? Four people, four spoons?" Robin walked back over to her whiteboard and drew another line under 'you suck' I continued to watch Steve talk to the girls. Robin turned back around to look at me, looking at Steve, and she sighed. I looked up at her, realising I had been staring at Steve.

"When are you guys going to, you know, get together?" Robin said. "Shh..." I said, closing the window. "It's not like he can hear us...he's too busy trying to flirt with girls." "I don't like Steve like that Robin. He's just...a...friend. I mean, he's basically my best friend, besides you and Nancy, he's ex." "Nancy...Wheeler?" Robin said, not listening to the other things I said.

"Look, you guys are like, perfect for each other." She further said. "No...we're not... Steve probably likes you more anyway." I said. "What?..." She questioned. "I mean, you guys both flirt with each other almost everyday so I can see why." I said to her. "I'm not flirting with him...I don't like him...his type, I mean-... I haven't known him for that long like you have." I remember back to when Robin had told me she liked girls and I tried not to smile. "Just admit you like him and I can stop talking about this." She added. I took a second to think.

"Fine...I...guess, I do like him." I finally said. "I knew it...how long have you liked him?" Robin asked. "I thought you were going to stop talking about this...for 2 years, I guess." "Oh my god!" Robin yelled. "Shhh... not too loud." "Why are you guys not together yet?" She whispered-yelled. "I don't know...I don't even know if he likes me." She rolled her eyes.

"Okay...well does he look at you a lot?" I think for a second, a smile appears on my face. "Yeah...I think he does." "Does Steve comfort you?" I think back to all the times that he held my hand when I was scared. "Yeah..." "He definitely likes you, Y/n." "Wha-"

Steve suddenly walked through the door. "Can one of you please help me with all these customers out here?" He yelled. "Y/n will." I turned to look at Robin. "Thank you." Steve said before leaving. "You got this." Robin whispered to me as I got up and walked out of the break room.
