Natasha woke up one morning to find her bed empty except for her. She didn't panic like she once had, realizing Wanda had probably just woken up big and gone to take care of herself. Little Wanda never wandered off without Nat in the morning. Still she got out of bed and went to brush her teeth before heading out to the kitchen.
When she went to walk through the living room, the woman found Wanda sitting on the couch with her knees up and Zaya resting on her thighs. She seemed to be in a world of her own, stroking patterns into the stuffed animals fur, not noticing Nat come in behind her. She had changed out of her little pajamas but her hair was still messy from sleep.
Nat stepped forward, forgetting about the coffee she was planning on making, and spoke softly to not startle the witch, "Hey good morning."
Wanda whipped around a bit startled anyways, "Morning."
She said simply, giving Nat an owlish expression. They were quiet for a moment. Then Nat came a little closer, "Do you want me to braid your hair?"
"I'm not little." Wanda said and the redhead just raised an eyebrow at her as if that didn't matter.
"I didn't ask if you were little. I asked if you wanted me to braid your hair." She replied with a teasing smirk.
The Sokovian blinked at this before she finally gave her an uncertain smile in return, "Yeah, okay.. I'd like that."
Nat close the distance between them, having her scoot forward so she could sit on the arm of the couch. She combed her fingers through the younger woman's hair to section it off and then began putting it in a French braid.
Since learning about Sharon and potentially being placed with her, big Wanda had been more elusive. Not quite as bad as she had been when first arriving at the compound but definitely had fallen back into the habit of hiding out in her room when she thought she could get away with it. Nat was actually surprised that Wanda had accepted her offer.
She hoped that Wanda would come around a little more. It felt like their time together was diminishing and she just wished they had more of it.
Wanda was quietly sitting, idly toying with her rabbits ears, when suddenly she broke the silence, "We never had any of this stuff. I never had any of this stuff before.. at Hydra."
The witch glanced at a pacifier sitting on the table and Nat knew she was talking about all the little things they had gotten for her- the toys, the clothes, the bottles and all the other things that brought her comfort. Nat's heart broke thinking of Wanda in a gray cell with nothing more than the clothing on her back. The Black Widow stayed silent though, sensing there was more Wanda had to say, and she continued, "They gave a diapers.. more for their convenience with the mess.. Other than that it was just Pietro and some wooden blocks. Not that I needed anything else. Piety was the best big brother. He took the best care of me."
Wanda's voice cracked and Nat abandoned the braiding and pulled the younger woman back into her for a comforting embrace. The Sokovian leaned back into her sniffling, and Nat couldn't see her face but knew she had tears spilling from her eyes. The redhead spoke softly, "I'm so sorry honey."
"I miss him all the time." She whimpered.
"I know, hun. I'm sorry he isn't with us."
She sobbed but after a moment Wanda began to calm down. When she stopped, the witch wiped at her face, "Thanks. Sorry about that."
She said seemingly embarrassed by the overflow of emotions. Natasha still holding her, dismissed her worry, "You have nothing to be sorry for."
"I guess I just wanted to say I appreciate that you've done so much for me." Wanda said, lifting up Zaya a bit to indicate what she was talking about, "This and everything this else. Thank you, Tasha."
