The old woman is tired but she is driven by the will to save this innocent soul as if she knows her life is in danger she keeps silent as they walk through the dusk.
Dawn has broken through, and the old lady was nowhere close to where she was going.
She could not trust anyone she too could be burnt alive for saving a witch's daughter.
She has no choice but to walk to her boss's house she is a good Christian woman surely she will understand all she needs is a change of clothes and money then she will return home to Kwazulu-Natal South Africa.
With her rattling bones, she had to take breaks several times a trip that could have lasted her half a day on foot was going to take her a day if not more.
The streets were now starting to have people walking to work others walking to catch a lift to work.
A mini truck loading veggies stop just after passing her.
Young man: " koko(grandma) where are you going..," he asks with so much concern in his voice.
Old woman: " I am going to Francistown"
He looks around looking backYoung man: "where are you from"
The old woman looks right into his eyesold woman: "kutuku."
The young man's eyes widen like saucers.Young man: " and you have traveled all this distance on foot"
He asks though he can see how drained the old woman is surly she has.
" please get in I will take you where ever you wish to go"
The old woman hesitated for a while.
" I won't do anything to you my name is Nkwenyane" he smiles the biggest brightest smile while opening the door from the inside.
Old woman: " very well then," she says walking up to the car and climbing in very carefully.
As soon as the minivan starts moving she lets out a long sigh of relief.
Nkwenyane looks at her and smiles
Nkwenyane: " so you must be cold," he says switching on the heater.
"what are you going to do in franchise town that's so..." before he could finish he hits a pothole sending the baby screaming.
He steps on the brakes immediately in shock looking over at the old woman.
" what was that," he says terrified.
The old lady takes out a tinny baby size of litter with long-life milk.
His eyes are ready to pop out of his eye sockets.
Old woman: "they burnt her mother alive I need to keep her safe South Africa is the only safe place for now I need to get to Francistown so I can get money to go across the border"
She says shacking hoping this young man does not call the cops.
