Flashback- 1985 (so they're in like kindergarten)
Alex's POV

It was already midway through the year and my parents decided to drag us from Oklahoma to California because of my older sister Angie. Yeah, they named their kids Angie and Alex, both beginning with an A. (So clever 🙄) Anyways, they thought she'd do better with a fresh start after what happened, and no one would tell me what it was. As if I am not old enough to know, I'm a big kid now.

I hated them for it because I wanted to stay in Oklahoma. Sure I didn't have very many friends but all this moving just makes me feel anxious. Mom and Dad arguing about what to pack and how to pack it, Angie acting like she's the boss of me, and worse of all we had to sell our pet goats, Clover, Bella, and Ruby Tuesday.

"You're gonna have fun in California." Angie says, chewing her gum and rolling her eyes. "And if you complain Mom will yell at me because apparently you learn everything from me, so please at least pretend to be happy."

I give her a wide, sarcastic smile.

"See, now is that so hard?" She says. "Let's get in the car before Dad flips is sh*t that we aren't ready when he's the one we're waiting on."

Angie use to swear like that a lot, but only around me. If Mom or Dad would hear her she'd spend two hours with a bar of tasty, bitter soap in her mouth. As funny as that would be, I never tell on her because she buys me ice cream every month. It's the deal we worked out.

I hop in the car and stare out the window the whole ride, trying not to think about the home I was leaving behind.

__

After about a week it was officially time for me to start at my new school, and of course I was nervous.

"Angie, drive you're brother to school!" My mom calls. "I got a lot to do and I'm already late."

Angie was lucky and didn't have to start her school until next week.

"Mom, I'm fifteen! I don't have my licenses." She says.

"Yeah but you'll be sixteen next month, and you have your temps. Besides you need the practice." Mom says. "Anyways, I gotta go, have fun at school Alex." She says and walking out the door.

I look up at my sister wondering what the next step was. She isn't actually gonna drive me, is she?

"Get in the car." She sighs.

So this is how I die. Can't wait.

I go into the garage and put on my bike helmet before climbing into my car seat and buckling myself up. I can do that know, I'm a big kid.

Angie comes out with the car keys and makes sure I'm all buckled as if I couldn't do right the first time.

"Smart thinking with the helmet." She says. "You know maybe we should wrap you in bubble wrap?" She says. "Nah, you're gonna be late."

Angie get into the drivers seat and takes a deep breath before starting up the car and driving (very very slowly) too my school. Lots of cars honked at us on the way and cursed at Angie as they angrily went around. I'm just thankful we made it too my school alive.

"Have fun, try and make some friends." She says as I undo my own buckle (because I'm a big kid now) and take off my helmet. I hope out of the car and a pit grows in my stomach. I don't even know where I'm going.

Angie drives off and I walk into the school without a clue of what I'm supposed to do. Today just started and it already sucks.
