Reggie's POV

I haven't talked Alex since our argument about Luke. I feel so bad for not hearing him out, he only doesn't trust him because he doesn't know what he did for me last summer. I think it's time I told him, but I haven't seen him. He wasn't in English and it's not like him to skip class. Maybe he's avoiding me.

He wouldn't would he? I mean, after all our years of friendship is it really over because of a guy?

The moment I step foot inside my house, I'm greeted with a slap to the face and my dad grips my arms and pulls me further inside the house.

"Skipping class? Again?" He says. "You are such a failure." He releases my arm.

"I-I..." I begin to speak, my heart beating so fast in fear knowing  I wouldn't be able to talk without stuttering.

"No, shut up!" He yells at me. "No making excuses. Do you know how hard it is to have such a worthless kid like you?!" He says. "You can't even go to class, don't you do anything right?"

I try and hold back tears because he gets mad when I cry, but he hits me again and I let out a cry.

"You have no reason to be crying right now!" He yells. "You know what, come here." He says grabbing my hair and pulling my closer to him. "If you want to cry I'll give you many reasons to cry." He pushes me to the ground and kicks me a few times. My ribs are on fire but I don't cry, that will only make it worse. "Get up." He huffs, but I can barley move. "I said get up!" He says pulling me up sending a serging pain in my ribs. "You are gonna go to your room, and you're gonna stay there the rest of the night! Clear?"

I nod my head and he lets go of me and I rush to my room before he can change his mind. I hear him leave the house and my mom is still at work, so I'm home alone now.

I hang out in my room for awhile without having much else to do, when all of the sudden there's a tap on my window.

I go over and Alex is there with a box of pizza. I open the window for him "I brought a peace offering." He says.

"Good because I really gotta talk to you." I say and he climbs in. I have to tell him the truth about what went down between me and Luke last summer.

Flashback to end of last summer

My uncle was at the store getting groceries and Luke was working on the shed. It was especially hot today and he was working very hard so I thought I'd bring him out some water. I still have yet to speak a word to him though so this could end very badly.

I get a water bottle from the fridge and head out to the yard. Here goes nothing.

"D-do you want s-some water?" I ask nervously.

He smile at me and takes the water, taking a few sips. "Thank you." He says. Not it's just awkward silence. I don't know what to say or do at all and he probably thinks I'm such an idiot.

"D-do you want any h-help?" I ask.

"Nah, it's good." Luke says. "I really need the money."

"Y-you can keep all the money." I say. "I just want to help."

"Thanks for the offer, but you don't have to." Luke says. "But, if you want you can keep me company."

"I-I'm not very g-good company." I say. "I can't even talk right."

"You're talking fine right now." Luke says.

"B-but I stutter." I say.

"So?" Luke says. "I don't mind."
