Present (1994)
Reggie's POVI stood with my back against the lockers staring at this boy from my math class. Luke Patterson. He wasn't very tall, about the same height as me, but he was built. And he always wore sleeveless shirts to show off his arms. But it wasn't just his build that made him the hottest person I've seen. His charming smile, his gorgeous hazel eyes, his brown shaggy hair, his energy, his personality, everything about him.
"Ooh, who's Reginald staring at?" Alex teases closing his locker. He looks over and his jaw drops. "Don't tell me." He says. "Patterson? Reg, come on he'll break your heart."
"What?!" I say. How does he know I was staring at Luke or that I even like him? "No, I'm not staring, and I don't even know who Luke is...he's just in my math class. I've barley talked to him." I say. It's not exactly a lie. He is in my math class..and science and history, and we sit next to each other in math. And I actually have spoken to him before, just not recently.
"You barely speak to anyone, you can still get crushes without talking to them." Alex says.
"I don't like Luke." I say. "I don't even know him."
"Sure...okay." Alex says.
Luke looks over and starts walking towards us and I feel my heart beat fast. "Ohmygosh he's coming over." I say to Alex. I quickly turn around to face the lockers and have my back towards Luke. I can already feel my face get hot as it turns red.
"Um, hey, Reggie?" He says trying to get my attention. He is talking to me! Oh my gosh what am I supposed to say! Why is this happening? Alex clears his throat and I turn around and smile and nod.
"You left this back in math class." He says handing me my notebook that was covered in Star Wars stickers and doodles. I filled that notebook with all my thoughts, with all the words I couldn't speak. With lyrics to songs I've tried to write and more mindless doodles. My whole life is in that book, and I am crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes that he didn't read it. Not even Alex has the right to see whats in that book. No one does, it's far too personal.
"Don't worry, I didn't look through it." He says as if he could read the panic on my face. I smile and nod and take the notebook back. "I'll see you in science." He says and waves goodbye before walking away. I sigh and lean against the lockers.
"Just math class huh?" Alex says.
"And science ." I say. "Science and history ."
"Ah okay." Alex says. "Well I'll see you in english." He says. I nod and we head off to our separate classes.
Alex's POV
Reggie is in love with Luke and that's obvious. But he has fallen way too fast for him, and he's gonna end up getting hurt. I've been there, me and Luke dated for a short amount of time but it was enough for my to come out of it heartbroken.
Flash back to last summer
My parents were sending me away, fantastic. I had come out to them and their reaction was I have been corrupted by my friend Reggie. They thought I was in love with him, and yeah I do love him but he's like my brother. I don't actually currently like anyone, I just know I don't like girls like that.
I had to pack up all my things and they shipped me away to some boarding school that was supposed to help me "get well" as if I was sick. It infuriates me and Angie didn't even stand up for me. I thought we always had each other's back against our parents but she took their side. I can't believe she doesn't support me, she said she always would. At least she said goodbye and wished me well, unlike my parents.
