GREY daylight filtered into the small apartment, rays settling over the seemingly lifeless woman's face. Down in the street below, cars and buses clamored to get to their destinations, horns honking and brakes squealing.

The sensation of a towering presence brought Sylvia jolting to a sitting position, but nothing appeared to be standing over her. Sweat dotted her forehead; the heat in the room was stifling. She smacked her lips at an attempt to rid her mouth of its slimy dryness.

Mumbling almost wordlessly, she pointed around the room, her brain desperately trying to gather its memories of the previous night's events. Or was it the previous night? Regardless, the young woman had absolutely no recollection of stumbling into her bed. The last words that had reached her ears echoed repeatedly in her head.

Anubis, come get your thrall!

Anubis. The monster at the end of her bed. The voice in her head. The Egyptian God of Death. No, previous God of death.

An image of Steven politely correcting her suddenly appeared in her head and she started. Steven! He had collapsed in the apartment hallway and before she could check on him, that thing with a bird's skull had done something to make her pass out. She needed to talk to him - desperately.

But where to find him? He obviously lived in the building, but she never got the chance to find out where. Although...

There was one other place she knew to find him.

Running to your knight's rescue, eh? The incessant voice began in her head and she winced at the sensation of no longer being alone in her own mind. Another presence was there, poking its way through her brain as if she was a frog on a dissection table.

"I don't know who - or what- you are, but you need to get out of my head." She growled, shoving her feet into the nearest shoes available. "And he's not my knight! I barely even know him."
