Chapter 1

- Explain again, why do I  have to take you to your audition?

   Edwina rolls her eyes at Kate before answering her for the fiftieth time.

- Because... you have a car and I don't. Simple.

- Yeah well I have a car because I have a job.

- And I'm trying to get one.

- I mean a real job, bon. Auditions are a waste of time. Why do you still go? They never work out anyway.

- Just because you gave up, doesn't mean I have to. - Edwina says sharply and regrets almost immediately. - I'm sorry, didi. What I mean is... this used to be your dream too. I still don't understand why you walked away from it, just like that.

- You know why, bon. I tried, for a long time, and not once did I hear anything other than "no, thank you". Enough is enough. I'm done following a dream that will never come true. - Kate sighs before looking at her sister again. - But you're right. My choices shouldn't affect yours, and if you really want to go to this audition then I might as well take you.

   Edwina jumps with excitement before embracing her sister in a bear hug. Kate would be lying if she said that she believed this audition would work. Edwina was talented, after all both sisters had studied together to become actresses. The problem, however, was that not a single director in L.A. seemed to agree with that.

   Kate wasn't lying when she said she tried for a long time. The industry was obviously hard, that's not news, but there's only so much a soul can take. And Kate's soul was tired of trying and trying and never getting anywhere. Dreams are good, but they are called dreams for a reason.    They're not real, and Kate now understood that.

   Her sister, on the other hand, seems to be just as excited as she was on her first audition. Her artistic flare was still burning inside her, even if her sister's flame was long extinguished. That's comprehensible though, considering she's younger and less experienced in the world's disappointments. Her naivety was a blessing and Kate would be damned if she was the one to break her sister's dreams.

  So she takes her to the audition with a smile on her face, even if deep down she's rehearsing an old speech of "don't worry" and "it's their loss" to give after what is surely another disastrous attempt.

- So... what's the movie about? - Kate asks while they wait for Edwina to be called.

- For what I understand they want to make a new version of one of Julia Quinn's books, The Viscount Who Loved Me. I'll be auditioning for the main character: Kathani Sharma. - her sister answers unaware of Kate's surprised gazed.

- Are you serious? That's like my favorite book of all time.

- I thought Pride and Prejudice was your favorite book. - her sister comments.

- I mean... it is. But The Viscount Who Loved Me is a close second.

- The story is great but the dialogues are hard to memorize.

- Such as?

- "When you manage to find this paragon of virtue, whatever makes you think she will accept your suit?" - Edwina acts while checking the short script she's been handed.

- Try to think not as memorizing it but more of putting yourself in the character's shoes. It's not about how you would say it, but how Kathani would say it.

- I guess...

   Almost instantly a large man appears in the room and calls for Edwina. Surprisingly, she freezes in her chair and stares at Kate with her big round eyes and an afraid look.
