“We’re going out.”
Anna looked up from her breakfast, giving the twins a raised brow. “Why?”
“I believe it’s called an intervention.” Fred plopped down on the seat beside her.
Though he wore his signature grin, his eyes seemed weary. “When’s the last time you picked up your paints, Anna?”
She shrugged. “Not in a while, but I don’t understand what a few art supplies have to do with anything.”
George pursed his lips. “You love painting. It’s your passion.”
“Which is exactly why we’re taking you out to Diagon Alley.” Fred finished excitedly. “After all - shopping is the best medicine.”
Anna shook her head, mustering her best smile. “Look, I appreciate this…intervention, but I already have more stuff than I need. Plus, I still need to apologize to Ginny…” She trailed off.
She still felt bad for snapping at her earlier - Ginny was only trying to help her.
You’re a failure. A mistake.
Anna clenched her jaw.
Fred waved her off. “You can apologize later. Right now it’s our job to get you back to normal.”
“Is something wrong?”
The three of them looked over to see Harry - standing by the doorway, rubbing at his eyes.
“Harry.” She inhaled sharply.
“Anna.” He regarded her warily.
Things hadn’t been the same between them, ever since everything happened with Bellatrix and Sirius. Sometimes, she wondered if he was disgusted by her, of the darkness she was capable of.
She couldn’t blame him.
She hated herself too.
“I didn’t hear you come in last night.” Anna said slowly, attempting to carry conversation despite the awkward tension in the room.
He shrugged his shoulders. “Ginny said that you went for a walk. I stayed up but you didn’t show.”
“Oh.” Was the only intelligent thing she could muster. “Sorry.”
Of course she decides to fall asleep in the woods the day her brother decides to show up at the Burrow.
Harry had already seemed to move on, shaking out the front of his shirt as he ran his fingers through his damp hair. “Aren’t you hot?” He gestured to her sleeves.
“Yeah.” She replied honestly.
“Then why are you wearing long sleeves?”
Anna frowned, but complied, rolling up the sleeve of her shirt.
“Whoa. What is that?” George made a face, all three boys tilting their heads forward to get a closer look at her wrist.
It seemed a bit worse that day - bright crimson in some places and shades of purples in others. Like a dark bleeding bruise.
“How did you even do that?” Fred asked, wincing as she pulled her sleeve back over the bruise.
“Probably accidentally fell or something.” Anna brushed him off. “But it’s definitely something I’d rather keep covered up than out in the open. It looks disgusting.”
Harry’s eyes shone with concern. “You should probably get that checked out. Is there some kind of healing balm that might work?”
“Check what out?” Hermione asked, finally downstairs with Ron standing by her side.
“Nothing,” Anna insisted - not wanting to make a big deal over something so small. “Just a bruise.”
“Are we ready to go then?” Ron asked, oblivious to the atmosphere of the room. “I’ve been wanting to see the shop for ages now.”
“You’re the one we’ve all been waiting for.” Ginny snapped back at him, rolling her eyes as she made her way from upstairs. “I never thought it would take so long for anyone to use the restroom. Were you styling your hair or something?”
The two began to bicker, turning everyone’s attention on them, and Anna gave a small breath of relief as she faded into the background.
It was just as she thought; no one needed her in the family dynamic.
They all would be better off with her gone
