“You know, if you keep thinking about him, you’re just going to torture yourself.” Ginny said quietly.
They were now on the Hogwarts express, speeding off towards the school, but Anna just couldn’t stop thinking about what had happened at Diagon Alley with Draco.
Of course she hadn’t told anyone - if anyone else knew, Draco would be in danger. Nonetheless, Ginny was her best friend, and the two of them could read each other’s emotions like open books, even if they didnt know the direct cause of them.
“I know,” Anna bit her lip. “But I can’t help but worry about him.”
Ginny sighed. “Look, Anna. I get that you’re upset that he pretty much ignored you all summer, but you’re just giving him more thought than he’s worth. You don’t need him. Anyone who’s willing to just drop you like that - don’t waste your time on them.”
“What if he’s in trouble, Gin? You know just as well as I do that Lucius Malfoy is a Death Eater.”
Just like Draco. She thought darkly.
“You can’t live his life for him,” Ginny insisted. “Look, as much as you may wish his parents weren’t working for Voldemort, they are. That was their choice. And Draco has to make his own choices based on the options he’s been given. Choices that he has to make on his own.”
Anna only nodded. Though she didn’t agree with Draco’s choice of becoming a Death Eater, it was a choice that he had made all on his own.
After all, It wasn’t like she had been given the greatest options in life either.
And she had also made the decision to step away from a romantic relationship with Draco, based on the choices she had been given.
A decision she was sure Draco hadn't quite agreed with either.
“Have you and Harry made up yet?” Ginny blurted out suddenly, flushing darkly.
Anna rose an eyebrow. “Are we fighting?” The last time she recalled, she and her brother weren’t on the most terrible of terms, though she was sure Ginny was a lot closer to him than she was.
“You two have barely spoken a word together the entire time he’s been at the Burrow. Not to mention that you chose a compartment on the opposite side of the train.”
Oh.
“Huh. I guess I didn’t realize.” She shrugged.
Truthfully, she hadn’t. It had been more of a subconscious thing, she supposed. Being around Harry made her uncomfortable nowadays - especially when he just seemed to be getting greater and nobler each passing day whilst Anna herself couldn’t even compare to his heroics.
You’ve never been able to match up. And you never will be.
Ginny rolled her eyes, relaxing deeper into her seat. “Well, the sooner you two make up, the better. Seriously. It’s too weird.”
It was Anna’s turn to scoff. “You’re playing the middle-man between Harry and I, aren’t you?” An odd anger began to burn deep inside her chest. “Sometimes I wonder whose side you’re really on.”
“I’m not on anyone’s side. I’m just trying to make things better for everyone.” Ginny said, irritation beginning to take up her tone. “I didn’t ask to be the one involved in a petty sibling fight.”
“Right.” Anna laughed dryly. “Like if you weren’t attempting to snog him, you’d still be in the middle of it all, wouldn’t you?”
Ginny huffed, sitting up straight as she leveled Anna with a look. “What the bloody hell are you trying to say?”
“I’m trying to say that you aren’t my friend anymore.” Anna snapped. “It’s always ‘Harry this, Harry that’. It’s ridiculous.”
“Like it’s so much easier dealing with you?” Ginny returned with a vengeance. “I’m not the one with the constant mood swings about a boy who doesn’t even care about your existence! He ignored you all summer, didn’t he? Yet you’re still obsessed with him. It’s pathetic.”
The sounds of the exiting students suddenly filled the air between them, but did nothing to ease the tension.
“If I’m so pathetic, maybe we shouldn’t talk anymore.”
Don’t do it. Please.
Ginny’s chocolate eyes glinted with fury. “That’s fine with me.”
Why does no one ever stay?
“Good.” Anna didn’t look behind her as she left the compartment.
You’ll be better off without her. No more ties, No more pain. She told herself.
Anna only wished that it would get rid of the heartache.

Another chapter of Anna pushing everyone away as a way to cope - indeed it is a horrible strategy👍
