~Espada's POV~

My life is quite basic. I hate excitement of any kind so it's usually work, food, sleep, repeat. Right now, I'm at work. I actually love what I do . It's the only aspect of my life where I almost don't have to interact with other people! Almost.

"You're hot when you're brooding, you know that?" A voice spoke from my office doorway.

"Good afternoon to you too Ash! Please, come in."

"And you're extremely sexy when you're snarky!" Ash said, sitting down opposite me and helping himself to my coffee.

"I was still drinking that!" I remarked. "What do you want Ash?"

"Blunt as ever! Do I need a reason to come and see you now?"

"No. But you need one to interrupt my work." I responded, getting up and walking to my office window.

"There's this thing tonight—"

"I'm busy. Sorry Ash."

"Are you ever going to forgive me? I thought I could handle the cold shoulder but I can't." Ash said.

"I don't know what you're talking about. Now, if you don't have a reason why you're here, please exit where you entered. I have work to do!" I said, sitting back down.

"Fine. Be that way! I'll see you when I see you!" Ash said, getting up to leave. "And Tony?"

"Hmmm?"

"Don't do something stupid!" He added and walked out, closing the door behind him.

Ash is my Attorney and self proclaimed friend and personal vault of secrets. He's also one of the smartest people I know even though he can be a little immature sometimes. We've known each other for a little over a decade and he's helped me get out of some rather sticky legal situations.

He's two years older than me even though he looks like an 18 year old and acts like a 10 year old! The man ages backwards! He's 27.

The following days went by in a blur and before I noticed, the weekend had come and gone and it was yet another week. Just like any other day, I concentrated solely on work.

I work in the finance department which means that I'm always surrounded by balance sheets and logbooks. Yes, my work is that boring but it pays me well so I don't mind. I don't have a boss, not really. I prefer to work as a freelancer.

But given that my associates are criminals who have trust issues, I had to promise them that I wouldn't do any work whatsoever for their 'rivals in business'. I was not to associate with anyone from the 'rival businesses' but I reminded them that I was there to work, not to join them and their petty group.

I've worked with them for almost a decade and I've obviously made a lot of enemies, both within and out of the group. I don't really mind it as long as people close to me aren't harmed. Criminals just like my associates, like to have "leverage" over their business partners and associates aka dirt on them to keep them in line.

I made it clear when I joined that my family and those close to me were off limits and that if I even heard a rumour that suggested otherwise, I'd end the partnership. Of course, this has not been foolproof and I didn't expect it to be.

But when you're dealing with criminals who murder people "to send a message", honour isn't something you should expect. And I didn't so I put certain measures in place to keep me and my people safe.
