The group tried to get on standby, but no one would let them. They had no credentials to provide, so the teens ended up sitting in the lounge.
"So, we just spent a couple of days coming here for nothing," Christian exclaimed.
"We could sneak on," Amelia suggested. Caroline looked at her aghast. "What? I've done it before."
There was no end to the girl's secrets. "Isn't that breaking, like a major rule in your society?" Kyreen interjected.
"We've already broken fifty," Amelia told them. "But we probably couldn't make it as far as Paris without getting caught."
Kyreen threw up her hands. "Where else are we supposed to go?"
Amelia's eyes brightened. "Wait! Didn't you say that you were ambushed in San Francisco?"
"Yeah," Caroline said half-heartedly.
"So, think about it. What would you do if you were your parents?"
"I would have surveillance 24/7 at the last place my kid was," Eve said, catching on to the idea.
"So, we go to San Francisco. We can hide in the baggage compartment on the flight to Denver and then jump a train or bus ride to San Francisco," Amelia finished, excited to finally be going somewhere.
Eve looked up at the board flashing the different flights. "But it leaves in twenty minutes!"
"That's plenty of time. Follow me, and don't stray from the group." Amelia sped towards a small door. Caroline followed, making sure her footsteps were quiet.
"Hey, this airport is full of footsteps, speed over sound. Be stealthy when we get to baggage area," Amelia told her. Caroline, embarrassed, started running.
They were led down a dark hallway and a flight of stairs. Soon, wind flew into her face as the sun flooded into the corridor.
Amelia motioned for them to run behind a nearby forklift. "Now is the time for quiet." Caroline followed her gaze to a nearby cart that was piled high with baggage. a man was sitting in the driver's seat. More workers were filling up the plane with gas.
"How will we sneak in? All of those guys will see us for sure," Eve whispered.
Amelia smiled. "Just wait, all of these guys will go in for lunch after they finish fueling the plane. We bolt for the baggage before the next guy comes in. They waited for a few more minutes, and then, just as Amelia said, everyone left. The group rushed, and dived into the pile just as Caroline saw a new driver come out the door.
Caroline heard someone whisper from amongst the bags." Bury yourselves as deep as you can, and prepare to fall."
"What?" Suddenly, the cart started moving. Caroline waited to be discovered, but the moment never came. Instead, she fell, just as Amelia said. Caroline was tossed around and finally landed in a dark room.
"Welcome to the baggage bay," Amelia said. They sat in the uncomfortable space until the plane started moving under her feet.
"FYI, the plane's about to speed up really fast, so if you have a problem with that..." Kyreen raised her hand and Amelia threw her a box of something. "They're patches you put behind your ear," she instructed.
"I will never get used to your random remedies," Kyreen said as she pressed one behind her ear. The plane jolted, and soon, it was speeding up to incredible speeds as the elves felt themselves leave the ground. Caroline hastily grabbed a piece of baggage before she was pushed backward into the back of the plane.
"This is way weirder than levitating," Christian said.
Eve nodded. "I have no clue how any of this works."
