"I say we do it," Caroline told her friends. The adults ushered the kids into the kitchen to talk about Mr. Forkle's proposal while they decided on a punishment for the many laws that had been broken. Caroline had agreed immediately. She did not want to be punished for being the victim, but the council would not have it. So the best option would just be to avoid it.

"For once, I am with Caroline. Who else is going to storm down the MRD? We know it the most, but a group of humans just won't cut it," Kyreen said. She had a fierce look of determination on her face that made Caroline want to agree with her.

"MRD?" Christian said, confused.

"Moonlark Research Division. It's too long," Kyreen replied.

Eve bit into a blitzberry muffin in the background. She hadn't said much at all. "What do you think, Eve?" Kyreen beat Caroline to it.

Eve looked up startled. "This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I don't think we should do it. I've already been experimented on once. This whole genetic manipulation thing? It's too risky. Even Mr. Forkle had no clue what he was doing with Sophie, he just got lucky. And who knows what the MRD did to us? They probably messed something up and that gene is just ready to explode."

"But we are the council's only hope," Christian said. Caroline was surprised that he was on her side. He had been through the same thing that Eve had. "It's not like the council will go storm their own department."

"But that might be what we need. The MRD is in their territory. Why do we have to do their dirty work for them?" Eve demanded. "They just don't want to look bad."

Caroline knew Eve had a point. But she was also not willing to give away everything that made her a part of the Elvin society. "But are you willing to leave behind everything that makes you an elf?"

"I just don't want Forkle to experiment on me without any real preparation," Eve said.

"You don't need to do it. But I want to, so you can stay behind while we go kick some butt," Thor said.

"And take down the Council!" Christian said. Everyone stared at him. "A little early," he said sheepishly. Caroline gave him a slight smile though. This was the ultimate goal though.

"First let's show the humans what they're missing!  Well, I mean, let's go introduce them to our elvin existence, shall we?" Caroline said.

Eve smiled. She might have been hesitant before, but Caroline knew that her friend would not miss a chance at adventure.

The group, filled with new confidence, stepped into the foyer where the adults anxiously waited.

"We're doing it," Thor told them. Determination was painted on his face.

Mr. Forkle hobbled over to their group. "Then there's no time to lose. We start two days from now."

Caroline sat in her room, shifting on her bed. A pit of loneliness settled in her stomach. She refused to let it get to her. Tani flew from one shelf to another, like she was waiting for someone. Caroline kept looking at the door, expecting someone that would never be there. It was a school day, so Aden was gone. She and Thor were held back by the council, awaiting their sentencing. Her door clicked open. She bolted up but Eve walked in, a smile on her deformed face.

"Are you ready?" She asked. Over the course of the past two days, she had gotten much more comfortable with the idea of the experiment.

"I just have no clue what's going to happen," Caroline admitted. She had fretted over the idea. Her genes were already spiked. From her Foster lineage to whatever the MRD did to get rid of her genes, she had as much of a right to back out as Eve or Christian did. "But we need to do this. For our sakes, and everyone else's. If we let the council do this, then our world will fall into chaos and there is no stopping the Council from using their bombs to look like a hero. The Council will take the opposite side, no matter what. The rest of the world needs to know that we are here, and that is what I intend to do."
