The Beginning

"Come to my place after school?" Siofra asked as we walked through the halls.

"Of course," I replied, glancing at Siofra and then at the ground.

Siofra was everything I wished I could be. I didn't envy her. More like wished to look like her. She was thin and gorgeous, with golden-brown eyes and thick, curly brown hair. She had perfect posture and held her head high. She was outgoing and bubbly, everyone adored her.

Meanwhile, I had braces and messy strawberry blonde hair, that I usually threw up into a ponytail. My blue eyes were hidden behind thick black-rimmed glasses. I chewed on my fingernails when I was anxious, which was very often. The only part of myself I took any pride in was my wings.

My wings are large, butterfly-shaped, and are a vivid, iridescent fuchsia color. I couldn't fly without magic but still adored them. Although I longed to have magic like the rest of the city, I tried to keep a positive attitude.

As Siofra approached her next class, she said, "I'll see you in a bit."

After sharing a quick hug, I moved down the hall to my next class.

Entering the classroom my mind wandered, already uninterested in what I was supposed to be learning.

I wonder what Siofra wants to do after school.

Probably talk about guys, I thought while mentally rolling her eyes.

Siofra liked talking about the guys she crushed on. I wasn't sure why at the time, but I was bothered by it and didn't want to hear about them. However, I had listened anyway since Siofra was my best friend.

While the teacher droned on and on about the lesson, I became increasingly lost in my thoughts until eventually, the sound of the bell ringing pulled me back to reality.

I shoved my school materials into my bag and rushed out the door to meet Siofra, who was already waiting for me near their lockers.

"Ready?" Siofra asked as I walked toward her.

"Always."

"Let's go."

We walked to the bus together, arms linked, and hopped on. Siofra and I live around the corner from each other, and we practically lived at each other's houses.

As we entered Siofra's home, Edurne, Siofra's mother, greeted us, and then we headed up to Siofra's room.

As I had guessed, Siofra went on and on about the latest guy she had a crush on. I listened and tried to refrain from rolling my eyes while she talked. I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach every time she mentioned how much she liked this guy.

I slowly began to realize that I was in love with Siofra and I wanted her to be mine.

After hanging out for a while, gossiping, and doing homework I had to head home for dinner. I hugged Siofra goodbye and went on my way.

Upon arriving home I washed up for dinner and sat down with my parents to eat. I talked to them about my day and they did the same. When I had finished my dinner it was time for bed. I went to my room and curled up in bed.
