"Calum quit being such a douche." I scowled my twin brother who was holding my chemistry book above my head watching me squirm to try to get it. We may be twins but Calum got the height in our family. He was easily six feet tall whereas I'm not even sure I've hit the five foot mark yet. He continued to laugh and held the book higher above my head. God I wish my brother wasn't such a dick all the time.
"What are you gonna do loser? Fight me?" he suggested. It actually didn't seem like a bad idea but I can't really afford to get suspended at the moment. I really need to get into college so I can run away from this hell hole.
"No. Now seriously Cal give me my book or I'm going to call mom and tell her you're the one that broke her favorite lamp last week when you and your dumbass friend decided to play football in the living room." I threatened and pulled out my phone. I can't believe mom actually thought the cat did it. I rolled my eyes just thinking about it.
"You wouldn't." He shoved me roughly into the lockers behind me causing me to drop my phone. Great. I looked to the floor to see my new phone in pieces.
"Looks like you can't do anything now you freak." He said shoving the book back into my arms and walking off with his friends, laughing and joking around.
I clutched the book in my arms and slid down the lockers burying my head in my knees. The bell rang signaling I should be in last block. I sighed and a few tears escaped my eyes.
I was bullied by my own brother, my phone is in pieces, and now my makeup is probably smudged making my already horrid face look worse. What a great start to a Friday.
"Are you okay?" an unfamiliar voice asked from above me. I looked up to see a boy with beautiful blue eyes that reminded me of the ocean and blonde hair styled into a perfect quiff.
"Um yeah I'm fine." I sniffled looking down and feverishly wiping my eyes praying to god I don't look like a raccoon. He slid down the lockers beside me and handed me a tissue.
"Thanks." I mumbled confused at the kind gesture. No one was ever nice to me especially not BOYS. They usually called me names and laughed at me for being so small and naïve, not give me a tissue to wipe the tears with.
"No problem. What's your name?" He questioned. I looked up to him taking in his features. His face was narrow, his jaw defined greatly, his lips a soft peach color with a lip ring on the right side, his eyes the color of the ocean just past noon on a rainy day.
"B-B-Birdie." I managed to stutter out. "B-B-But you can c-call me B-Bird." I mentally cursed at my awkwardness. "Wha-What's your's?" I questioned right back.
"I'm Luke, I just moved here from Sidney and don't know where I'm going." He admitted sheepishly. I chuckled a bit sniffling.
"Well Luke, currently we are supposed to be in last block but we already missed half of it so there's no point." I turned to him my stutter gone.
"Well if there's no point then why don't you say we get you cleaned up and get out of here." He grinned getting up. Once he was on his feet he offered me his hands to help me up. I gladly accepted. I Put my book back into my locker and picked up my poor shattered phone from the floor.
"Mom's gonna flip when she sees what Calum did." I frowned at the poor thing, and then carefully put it into my bag.
"I don't think there's any hope for it." Luke said with a sad smile. I shrugged and closed my locker. Luke grabbed my arm and lead me into the girls bathroom.
"You know you can get expelled for being in here right?" He just shrugged and placed me on the counter. He grabbed a wet paper towel and began wiping the smudges off of my face.
"There all done. You look so much better without all of that makeup." He smiled genuinely at me. I hopped off the counter.
"Thanks. Come on let's get out of here." I grabbed his hand and walked out.
"Where do you think you kids are going?" A teacher asked coming out of the workroom and walking towards us.
"Run!" I said to Luke and sprinted off tugging him behind me. It didn't take much for him to catch up to be beside me with his giraffe legs. We sprinted out the door of the school. Him leading the way I suppose to his car. He helped me into the passenger side of the red Jeep with no doors. He quickly got into the driver's seat and cranked it up barreling out of the parking lot.
"Oh. My. God." I said panting. "I have never done something like that in my entire life, IT WAS AWESOME!" I exclaimed laughing. He chuckled keeping his eyes on the road.
"Where are we going?" I asked looking out the side of the Jeep watching the world go by.
"Where's your house?" he asked. I showed him where to go and shortly we ended up in my driveway.
"Would you like to come in?" I offered as he helped me out of the seat. "Sure." He replied politely following behind me. I took out my key and unlocked the front door slinging my book bag to the ground.
"Well, home sweet home." I said shutting the door behind Luke. He set his bag next to mine and took off his shoes.
"Is very lovely." He told me taking in his surroundings. I chuckled slightly and started making my way upstairs. I walked into my room and flopped onto my bed. He mimicked my actions turning to face me smiling.
"So Luke, tell me about yourself." I said propping myself up onto my elbows.
"Well, my full name is Luke Robert Hemmings, I'm eighteen, I have a younger sister named Lilah she's seventeen. I like to listen to music and eat pizza, and I play guitar." He said with a smile. "And what about my little Birdie?" He questioned.
"Oh um it's Bird." I corrected looking down blushing. "Well, my full name is Birdie Mika Hood, I'm seventeen, I have a twin brother named Calum, He's a jerk, and I also like to listen to music and eat pizza." I smiled looking at him.
"I'm happy I met you Luke." I smiled looking up at the ceiling. "You're the only one that cares." I said looking back at him.
"I'm glad I met you too Bird, and I'll be happy to care any day." He smiled.
