The next day you found yourself sitting on the riverbank, weaving a wreath in the rose lights of an early sunrise. Armin showed you the way here since you were not to leave the HQ's by yourself. You couldn't trust anyone with this private business of yours. Anyone but Armin Arlert.

Were you friends? You were almost never seen together. Though, you regularly met once or twice a week to have long deep talks. It was Armin who helped you deal with the little "issue". He didn't judge, didn't ask any questions. He just helped. He didn't expect for any complications that occurred afterwards, but who would?

You heard James snoring somewhere in a distance. He, of course, was over his head to follow you outside in the cold and dark when you woke him up and whispered something about the river, flowers and disobeying Levi. When you sat down with that soldier, he didn't know the name of, James sat under some tree and happily dozed off. You thought he was the worst guard imaginable and yet, the best one for you, at this moment.

— (Y/N), how are you feeling today? Does the stomach still ache? — Armin chimed, softly breaking the peaceful sunrise silence. You two were sitting by the water putting flowers into two neat wreaths.

— Better, thank you, Armin.

— And what about captain Levi? Have you told him yet?

— No... I can't.

— I think I get it. It feels like this person is the only one who actually deserves to know and yet, somehow, you just cannot tell them. You feel like they won't understand.

— Who's the girl, Armin? — you asked grinning.

— Huh? Wha-what girl?

— The one you were thinking about right now?

— Ah... Well, I guess I can tell you, — he sighed, looking away — Her name is Annie. She's the most beautiful girl in the world. Ehm, no offence, (Y/N).

— Believe me, none taken, — your lips curved into a warm smile.

— She can't.... Well, she doesn't talk to me now but I hope that one day she will. There are so many things I want to tell her! And she's so alone. I want to show her that the world is not that scary. That there are people that actually like her. And not only me! And she was good to me. So, you know—

— Nobody forbids you to dream and hope, right?

— Right, — he said with an upset smile.

— Armin, you are the most amazing person I know. If she doesn't want to be with you, she's a total fool. She doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as you. You can have any girl you want. Please, remember it!

Armin chuckled.

— Ironically, the only girl I want is the one I can't have... What's up with you and captain Levi? Are you planning to tell him soon?

— Ah? I see. Not willing to get into specific details, aren't we, Armin? Fine, — you laughed at his sudden topic change, — I was going to tell him. You see. I keep wondering about our future. When we attain peace, you know? He's a man of action, a man of war. He represents the whole idea of fighting. What will happen to him? He'll get bored pretty soon. With ordinary life. And with me. Do I need to have my heart broken by mediocrity?

— First, I don't think he'll ever get bored with you, honestly. Second, why living in the future?

— Because my present sucks? — you scoffed.

— Sure, — he laughed. — But this will get you nowhere. I think it's better for you to fix your present. And we'll see what the future holds. You love him, right?
