"This ring will keep you safe," Amelia told Caroline, sliding the silver band with a blue crystal on top. The blonde couldn't go home so she had to stay in the Salvatore house until further notice.
"Thank you," she said. "You too, Bonnie." Caroline placed her hand in the sun and she didn't burn up as she thought she would before fully stepping in.
"How did you know the spell, Amelia?" the witch asked. "I've never seen it in any of my Grams' grimoires."
"I spent time with a witch," she answered.
"Are you sure she can't have an alternative blood intake?" Stefan asked. "She can try animals."
"It runs through the line," Amelia said. "Even though Mikael's... not around to compel her or some sire nonsense, he is powerful."
"Or you may be her sire," he thought. Amelia frowned, more surprised that she never thought that she could be a sire.
"I don't know. Perhaps."
"Have her do something."
Amelia vamped to Caroline who shortly gasped and stared into her eyes, almost trying to compel her even though she wasn't an Original. "Drink Stefan's blood."
Caroline blinked and glanced at the brown-haired boy. "Ew, no. Especially from the neck? That's like, kissing your best friend's boyfriend."
"Okay then," Amelia leaned back. "You will start you training to day with defense, skills, and your first dose of vervain. I need you to be strong enough to protect yourself in case anything happens so I don't have to worry too much."
"I'm coming," Stefan said, grabbing a duffel bag with weapons from a throne chair. Amelia glanced at him and he added, "I don't want her getting killed during your tests."
She rolled her eyes and led them outside. She didn't bother getting into the car and vamped across the streets until she reached the woods. Stefan was behind her and they waited for the newborn to arrive.
"Follow the sound of my voice, Caroline," she whispered. "Listen. Drown out every sound in the world and listen. Come to me." In an instant, the girl glided to them but she was too fast and slammed into a tree. Before she could gather herself, Amelia had already jumped into the trees. "Use the strength in your legs and jump. Just a slight leap. You need to know how to control where your strength goes."
Amelia paced herself on a thick branch, watching as Caroline either jumped too high or not enough. Stefan was trying to help her from the ground but his encouraging words were useless. Despite that, he kept talking until she grew annoyed and pressed him against the tree, her hands baring into her chest.
"That's enough," Amelia called when she landed. Caroline pulled back in terror of her own actions and she looked at Amelia, a weary expression across her face, before she vamped away.
"I'm sorry, that was my fault," he apologized.
"Indeed it was." Amelia listened carefully to hear sobbing and sprinted across the ocean of trees to see the spark of blonde hair flowing next to bark. She slowly approached the girl and crouched in front of her. "I don't blame your emotions skyrocketing at the moment. It takes time to adjust to the new changes and I don't expect you to learn right now."
She lent out a hand which the girl took and Amelia was surprised that Caroline brought the both of them into the air and land on a branch. The blonde girl giggled in excitement, but to ruin the fun, she was given a short vial to drink. The liquid burned on her lips and tongue and sizzled down her throat. She coughed and lost her balance, falling, and landing on the floor. Amelia heard her bone crack at the force of impact and she went down, she saw that her leg had broken.
"You could have given it to me on safer conditions!" she exclaimed as her body healed.
"You can speak after a shot of vervain," Amelia responded. "Your tongue is supposed to be gone."
"I've adjusted," she grinned, cockily.
Amelia heard something release, a trigger, and heard the speed of which it ran through air and caught the stake Stefan had fired. She brought it away from Caroline's chest and she pivoted, glaring at him.
"And you said I'd be the one to kill her during training," she muttered.
"I knew either of you would catch it," he said.
"Shoot another one," Caroline urged, vamping into the distance. Stefan obliged and released a stake or two which she caught gracefully. She even attempted to throw them back but was her aim was off and she knew she'd had to learn.
"Now you need to know how to shoot it," Amelia said.
"I know how, my mom's a cop." She held the crossbow and released it, perfectly staking a tree. Then, she shot a few rounds of wooden bullets at the bases, perfectly killing the stable opponent.
"Try and kill me with your hands," Amelia told her, handing her a stake. She vamped away and watched as Caroline checked her surroundings, especially since Stefan had disappeared as well. She saw her close her eyes so she could sense her and she came close.
"Found you," she said. She drew her arm back to stab but Amelia dodged it and twisted her arm back, snapping it. The girl winced and she placed the stake in her non-dominant hand. They went into hand-to-hand combat and Amelia went easy until she was stabbed with the wooden stick on the right side of her chest.
"That was good," Amelia said as the girl panted and Stefan returned. She pulled the stake from her body and made she sure she quickly healed.
"I'm hungry," Caroline whined. "Stefan?"
"No, he drinks animal blood, he's unsustainable," Amelia interjected.
"I've actually been drinking human blood, little by little," Stefan spoke up. "But it won't be enough for you."
"Why can't I just drink from a blood bag?" Caroline questioned.
Stefan looked at Amelia who didn't look back and he pulled out a bag. "I knew someone would need it and I've had enough."
"Yes, you should not be greedy," Amelia agreed. "You stop when you're strong again."
Caroline took a hold of the blood bag and opened the latch and placed her lips on it. She took a few gulps until she was full and pulled it away. Amelia knew she wanted more but it was a step towards moderation so she wouldn't have a blood lust.
Stefan packed away the bag and the other weapons right when Caroline gagged and turned to regurgitate the human blood. She coughed, making sure it was all out before wiping her mouth and standing up.
"Your Original is very powerful to the affects of his line," Stefan commented.
"If you were closer to yours then maybe you'd be the same," Amelia said. "Caroline are the only two which makes us special."
