I manage to sleep half my flight; when the pilot announces the flight is about to land I fasten my seat belt again and sit straight. I could now see the London city below me, far off I could see the beautiful and huge London eye. The sight from above was so beautiful so ...unreal.
After the flight landed I picked up my cabin baggage and headed to the visa counter. I had a student visa, so my work was done in no time. When I stepped out of the airport ,there were hundreds of people waiting with placards in their hands. It was pouring cats and dogs so I stood there for a good half an hour.
I looked around for my name; yes, I would be having a bodyguard here! I sigh, thinking why I can't just be a normal girl. All my dreams of being free had crashed on the floor when Dad broke this news to me, but I didn't let it destroy my happiness.
"Ms. Gates", a strong voice called from somewhere far away, breaking me from my trance. I turned to look in the direction of the voice. It was a tall man dress in a black suit and I've got to admit he looked really smart.
He jogged to me and shot me a small smile, "Good Evening Ma'am , I am George West your bodyguard in London. Mr. Gates had spoken to me earlier today. I hope you'd a good flight." he asked politely and I nod. He was well built and had brown hair and dazzling eyes. He was about in his mid 20's and had an intimidating aura around him, perfect for a bodyguard.
"Hello, I am Cora Gates." I said, in a short greeting and returned his smile.
George took my baggage and headed to the parking area, I quietly walked behind him taking in the place and its beauty. The rain had ceased some time back and I thanked God, as rain is not one of my favorite things in the world. I really should start liking it though. London has, according to me, the best and worst climate.
He opens the door of a black Audi with the windows tinted. I step in the car and thank him once again. We drive through the London streets. Dim lit of London streets made it look even more beautiful. The mix of colors of the twilight sky almost gave a romantic feeling. I was already in love with this city of dreams and success and most importantly... freedom.
I still can't believe I am in London for my higher education. I mentally do a victory dance to celebrate my freedom and authority. But I also felt very sad to leave Ann and Peter behind. I see George looking at me from the rear-view mirror and I quickly compose myself. He smiles at me and then turned his attention back on the road.
"Ma' am , you should really be careful out here " he said suddenly out of nowhere.
"What? Why?" I ask, rather shocked by his randomness. "I mean, why did you say that George? I hope I may call you that?" I question, bothered.
"I don't know Ma 'am, with all due respect, you look really pretty. And yes you may call me that." he says so confidently, with a ghost of a smile and I flush red like a tomato.
"Oh thank you" I say with a light giggle.
Soon George pulls the car into the drive way of a huge building named Ramada Hotel. He gets out of the car and walks over to open my door. I get out and walk up the hotel entry stairs.
"Good evening Miss," the door keeper says. I smiled and walked inside; immediately a waiter ascots me to my seat.
I notice the heavy rates in the menu card ; why did he have to get me here? I grimace in disgust. Yes, my father is very rich, but I am not a big fan of spending money; I can't digest the fact that so much money is spent on food ,that too food which doesn't even fill your stomach. There are thousands of people out there who don't even get a proper one time meal and here I sit in this lavish hotel eating shit that has only a carrot, cucumber and a few spoonful of stupid sauces. Duh!
I get up from my seat and immediately walk out of the hotel. I could see people looking at me but I decide to ignore them. As soon as I am out of the hotel I call George, luckily he had given me his number in the airport. The black Audi pulls up near the door of the hotel and I get in.
"Ma'am, is everything alright? " He asked concerned.
"Yes, I just wanted to eat something road side you know? Something out of a trailer or a small street restaurant. Are there any around here?," I ask, a little embarrassed by my question.
He begins to laugh loudly and says " "Ma'am we can't have dinner in such places its not safe for you."
"Oh come on, lets go somewhere I'm starving." I say almost whining.
"But Ma'am- " he begins.
"No buts, its my order " I tried to say in a serious tone which makes him chuckle again.
"This is the place where you get the best Chinese in London" George points to a small shop by the river side. He had finally agreed, after a little pleading, to take me somewhere... casual? We drove a few blocks until he came to a stop here in a dimly lit, narrow street.
"Great, let the feast begin then" I said, with that I jump out of the car.
We both have our dinner talking about random things of London and United States.
It was 11:30 when I finally checked the time. "George its 11:30 we are very late, how will we enter the hostel now?" I asked panicking." Oh God, I just lost track of time.
"Ma'am please forgive me." he said, worry clear on his face.
I suddenly felt bad seeing his worried face and to lighten the mood I said " But we wouldn't have enjoyed this much if we didn't lose the track of time, right?" I giggle at my attempt to joke. He looked at me for a second and burst into laughter again.
"Ma'am you are really different, I have worked with many rich people, but you are no where close to them." He said with a wide smile on his face.
"Uhm thank you?" I said not knowing what else to say.
"We can take a hotel room for you tonight " George said while we walked back to the car.
"Yes I guess that is the only option left " I said, sighing.
I got into my room totally drained out. I dropped my head on the pillow and quickly dozed off, with my heart filled with.... contentment.
