A/N: sorry for the delay. I hit a creative block and my brain stopped working and then I got obsessed with Our Flag Means Death and then I started editing fan videos of that show. I needed some time to reorient myself so here I am again. Enjoy!

----------

Exploration of the house took the rest of the morning and early afternoon amidst the sporadic phone calls everyone was getting. Mostly it was people checking on each other and giving updates on situations. So far, everything was chaotic but slowly going according to plan.

Luna and Loki continued to mosey hand-in-hand from room to room, casually touching things and commenting on the state of them. But as they idly mused, they basked in the pleasure of mutual understanding. They knew what they wanted and where they stood with each other, and to their joy and luck, they were on the exact same page and line. It made every touch and glance that much more exciting and precious.

They soon reached the other end of the house and the final room on the first floor. Like all others, there was nothing much, but the bookshelf in the back held a few choice things.

"Ooh, what's that?" Luna asked, venturing inside. Loki didn't answer but followed in after her, peering over her shoulder.

Luna picked up a stray book and flipped to a random page. It held nothing of importance, so she closed it and put it back. On the shelf above sat a little ceramic duck. She plucked it from its spot and inspected it. It was covered in dust, but there was still brilliance in the white paint. She traced her finger along the ridge of the blue bow painted on one side of its neck and gingerly put it back when she was done.

Dusting off her fingers, Luna moved on to a lower shelf. She crouched down to examine whatever she didn't see the first time. Nearer to the ground, she saw nothing, but a dull shimmer underneath the second-to-bottom shelf caught her eye. She scrunched her brow, ran her fingers over it, and felt something smooth and metallic.

"Hey," she said, waving a hand in the air. "Take a look at this." Loki dropped whatever he was doing and sped to her side.

"What is it?" he asked, and she pointed to her find. He touched it the same way she did and paused to assess it. "It's a button."

"Yeah." Luna looked at him. "Should we press it?"

Loki glanced from her to the button and back. "What do you think we'll find?"

"I don't know, but it might be exciting."

He grinned. "My favorite kind of secret. Would you like to do the honors?" He gestured to her. "Finder's privilege."

Luna studied him and lingered her hand back to the metal button. She pressed the pad of her middle finger to the center and pressed down as hard as possible. A metallic grinding sounded from behind the bookshelf, followed by a clang, three heavy clicks, and a final light snap as the shelf shifted a fraction of an inch forward.

Loki and Luna locked eyes and stared at each other as scandalous glee filled them to the brim. Adventure in his eyes, Loki stood up and offered Luna his hand to get up. She accepted it, and he pulled her to her feet and gently ushered her closer. He took the liberty of pulling the shelf out, watching it hinge on the opposite side. The pair stood in silence and awe at their discovery.

Luna peeked through the gap and saw a stone landing with a case of stairs leading down into darkness. She glanced at Loki out of the side of her eye, and he looked at her.
