Nick had come out to his friends a couple of weeks ago and it went surprisingly well. Harry genuinely seemed okay with it and Nick figured it might have had something to do with the beat down Nick had given him at the movie theatre a few months ago when Harry had been calling Charlie all kinds of horrible things. Harry was still a knob, but at least he was pretty supportive about this.
The rest of the school was pretty cool with it too, at first he'd gotten a couple of odd glances and a few mean comments but that all died down relatively quickly. Nick figured they just didn't care enough.
Maybe they just didn't want to bully one of the best players in the rugby team.
They entered the school and Charlie sighed. He was exhausted after last nights studying that had dragged on into early in the morning. Nick followed him with a tired yawn. He was not feeling like two hours of math at 7am, especially since his boyfriend had another lesson.Luckily they'd meet up after school again and go get milkshakes with their friends Elle and Tao.
The day passed in a blur. Probably because of Nicks inability to focus on anything his teacher was saying.
He greeted Tao and Charlie at the gates outside school and together they headed off too Griggs high school, where Elle went.
During the short walk to the other school Tao somehow managed to fall into a ditch, still wet after last nights heavy rain. He muttered something about how it was probably Nicks fault, even thought nick had been 2 meters from him when he stumbled. That was just the kind of friendship the two almost-best-friends had.
They arrived to Griggs late, of course, and the second they saw Elle she broke out in a huge laugh, maybe because her boyfriend was covered in mud from the hips down, maybe because nick was wearing Charlie's rain coat, which was at least two sizes too small.
Tao and Elle started a conversation about some movie they'd seen the other night and since Nick and Charlie had never even heard of it they started talking to themselves about the coming weekends activities. It was only Monday and the weekend seemed so far away. Charlie's family was going to be out of town and the boys would binge the twilight movies, which Charlie insisted were great.
Nick wasn't too sure.
Suddenly rain started pouring over them. Not a sprinkle. A full on storm.
"It's pissing it down" Nick stated
"No way. I hadn't noticed" Tao muttered under his breath, earning him a playful poke. They found safety from the rain in a nearby café. They'd only been outside for a couple of minutes before they found the cozy café but they were all soaked, except for Nick, who was still wearing his boyfriend's rain coat.
"I hate British weather," Elle exclaimed, after ordering coffee for the whole bunch, except for Charlie, who got a cup of black tea instead.
"It's always raining, and at the rare occasions it's not it's to muddy to be outside."
"True that," Charlie mumbled in response between sips. He was curled up in a ball in a sofa, next to Nick. "Either that or it's uncomfortably hot, and you wear shorts, just for it to go freezing the next day."
Despite the horrid start they all managed to have a pretty nice double date, if they dared call it that. One cup of coffee or tea quickly became two, then three and then four. When they were done they were dry again and it had stopped raining.
"Let's go back home before it starts again" Charlie told Nick, and they left Elle and Tao behind, who were just going into their fifth cup of coffee.
