Walking away from the window, we went and sat around the car and light a fire that would keep us warm for now. The sun was setting and it was time to make sure that everything and everyone was safe. We grabbed some food out the boot of the car and started to eat. It had been a long couple of days and we were all starting to feel the effects. We knew we needed to rest to make sure we were strong for the next day just in case. “So what's the plan for tomorrow then?”
“Just laying low and making sure we don't get kidnapped again, we're all completely aware of where we are, who is around us and knowing our area.”
“So fuck all then?”
“Yeah pretty much” I grinned. We all laughed and felt relief wash over us and it made us feel better. We were all family, well that's what it felt like. At least now Mikey and Krista were sorting things out. He hadn't left her side since we got back and he was being very protective over her. He wouldn't even let Frank see her, and she's his sister, without Mikey being around.
“What are they doing in there? Actually wait no I don't wanna know what their doing in there. Dodgy images in my head now” he grimaced. We laughed and told him it was his own fault. “Shut up OK? Not my fault I wasn't the one who wanted to have a look through the window you weirdos” he retorted. We couldn't help but laugh at him.
“Sorry it's funny seeing your face” Ray laughed. He was struggling to breath because of it.
I woke up and looked at the time. It had been almost 2 hours since I had fallen asleep and I felt much better. I kept trying to move my arm and nothing happened. I tried to move my leg and it worked. Now I knew that now I was able to walk, I pulled myself out of bed and walked out of the door. It was dark out and I heard the crackling of the fire and I hobbled over toward it. I saw everyone sitting around the fire and I went to join them. When I had woken up I had seen that Mikey wasn't there and I guessed that he was with the others. “Hey your awake” he grinned. I smiled and sat down next to him. He handed me some food and I gladly took it and tried to open the tin. Only having one hand didn't help when opening things. They had made a make-shift sling out of ripped up clothing and it felt much more comfortable thank just having it dangling about. I still couldn't move it and I had no feeling in it still and I knew it was still paralysed.
“How you feeling?”
“Stiff and sore. I have a nice scar forming on my side though.”
“Can I see?”
“No you can't. Don't be a creep!”
“Sorry I just wanted to see.”
“Because your nosey” Ray said. We all laughed. It was good to know that for now we're safe and no one can get us. For now we were just like a normal group of friends, a family more or less and it was nice. We were together and we all loved each other. It was nice and I felt happy.
“Hey, shall we swap family stories?”
“From when we were younger?”
“Yeah. It'll be nice and funny hearing everyone's stories” Frank laughed. I knew exactly what he was gonna tell them and I was worried. I was hoping he didn't tell the most embarrassing one from our childhood. I was terrified.
