Hours passed and the sun had gone down. The small camp-fire we had made was still burning brightly and we kept an ear out for an Dracs that were incoming. I had my head on Mikey's lap and I smiled as I saw everyone else dozing off due to tiredness. I looked up and realised Mikey had fallen asleep sitting up. I smiled and sat myself up, running my fingers through his hair. He mumbled in his sleep and tried batting my hand away. I giggled quietly and stood up, grabbing my gun out the holster and walking the perimeter of the small base site. As I hobbled, I twirled the gun around in my hand. I stopped dead in my tracks as I heard a noise coming from in front of me. I aimed the gun at the noise and didn't do what everyone else would have done and call out “who's there?” That's how you get killed. I pulled a flare out of the pocket of my, now completely ripped, jeans and lit it, seeing only small wildlife that had survived scrounging for food. I looked up in the tree and saw some fruit and got it down for them. It wasn't easy nor was it painless but it felt nice not shooting them.
I hobbled back round to where the small camp-fire was still burning, only to see them freaking out. I laughed. “Well where is she?!”
“She was last with Mikey!”
“I'm here you twits. I went for patrol.”
“Without one of us?”
“Yeah. Problem?”
“Your still injured Kris. Don't do that again! What would have happened if you got ambushed by Dracs and they shot at you because you can't run or shoot back properly?”
“Frank, stop worrying. The only thing I saw were wildlife. What are they going to do? Eat me to death?” I retorted. He sighed and sat back down. “That's what I thought. Look you guys were asleep and I woke up so I didn't wanna wake any of you up. Because I've already slept today I didn't really need the rest. You guys did and you still do. I wanted to make sure that you weren't gonna get ghosted sleeping outside!”
“Aww you did that for us?”
“Yes because I care about you guys. Your the only family and friends I have” I sighed, wincing slightly at the burning pain going through my body. Unfortunately it wasn't something I managed to get away with because of the light of the fire. Everyone noticed it and advanced toward me. I batted them all away and hobbled over to the tree so I could get myself down safely without causing any more damaged.
“You alright?”
“I'll live” I grinned. I shuffled myself forward toward the fire, bringing up clouds of dust. “Now they really need washing” I grumbled. The guys just grinned at me. It took me a moment to realise that my shirt had a massive burnt hole in the side. “SHIT!” I cried, causing them to look at me.
“What?”
“I need to get a new shirt. Fucking hell” I groaned. My favourite top, as well as my only top. Thankfully my jacket hadn't been hit so I was relieved.
“Stop being such a girl over a burn mark. Your jacket will cover it.”
“Not the point. My jacket may cover it but it will rub at the scar and it will get on my nerves!”
“The last thing you wanna do is open that scar again” someone said behind us. We turned our heads to see Dr D there, smiling. I nodded and stuck my tongue out at Ray whole laughed and tried to throw something at me. I dodged and realised it was my gloves. I grinned excitedly and noticed that someone had painted an Atomic Bomb on each one with “A.P” written underneith. I smiled and tried to put them on. I got frustraited when I realised I only had one hand and Mikey pulled them on for me. If we didin't know we were in Hell, it was like camping out with friends back in the Old World.
“Hey guys, has anyone seen my bandanna?”
“Yeah. It's with Mikey's covered in blood” Ray said. I looked at him, confused. “Used it to try and stop you bleeding all over Gerard's car. He was getting pissed about it staining the seats” he said. I shot a death look at him.
“What was I meant to do? Go 'blood, you are going to ruin the car. Make yourself scarce now'?!”
“No it's not what I mea--”
“Save it. I don't care” I sighed, forcing myself up and back inside.
“Well done you moron now she's upset” I heard from outside. I kept walking and kicked whatever it was out of the way. I walked out the back and suddenly found myself crying. I was so angry. I felt like an Atomic bomb ready to explode. I was shaking so hard, it hurt. I heard footsteps walking toward me and I didn't care. I carried on walking off into the desert in the dark and didn't bother checking for my gun.
