When we get to the estate, I leave them in a dining room and I go and get them vegetables from the garden and water. I set them on the table.

"Eat, I'll be back in a bit."

I head for the forest, not bothering to take anything other than a knife.

I walk a couple miles in and wait. After a few minutes, I hear the sound of something running towards me.

I wait, crouched until a gorgeous alpha wolf comes running by. I pounce, jumping on the back of the wolf.

I don't take the time to grab my knife as the wolf tries to shake me.

In one swift motion, I break the wolf's neck.

It falls. Dead.

I admire its fur, a beautiful gray speckled with black.

I carry it back to the estate and slam it onto the table.

"Have at it."

I walk to the other bedrooms, searching for one that's empty.

Everyone died so suddenly, everything is exactly the way they left it a few hundred years ago. Clothes are laid out, weapons are strewn everywhere.

Rosas tapestry, unfinished, still hangs in the workroom. Julias painting sits next to it, the finishing touches still not put on it. A sculpture sits partially done. Clothes are laid out for when they came home, but they never did. Dishes still fill the sink. Vases with long dead flowers still sit on tables covered in dust.

I finish my search. To my dismay, none of the rooms are empty.

"Take whatever room you would like."

I want to scream at them not to touch the things that lie in them. Not the clothes or shoes or the jewelry. Not to move the books one inch. Not to move the workout mats or the boxing gloves. And to never touch the unfinished art, littered throughout the house.

But I don't. I can't.

I am no longer Gwyn who could yell at them and who could cry.

I am the Khalid. And they are just rooms. It won't kill me.

Even if it feels like it will.

It won't.

They leave the table, only a pile of bones remain.

I reach forward and let a tendril of my power flow onto them. Slowly the wolf knits itself back together. When it's complete and growling at me, I open the door and let it out, back into the forest.

I'm sorry, I should say. But I don't.

I find the twins in a living room, playing cards.

"So how do you have Valkyrie wings and Vampire tendencies?"

They exchange looks. "Our mother was a Valkyrie and Vampire runs in our fathers side of the family."

"Who was your mother?"

Prince Belgraves wife died a while ago.

"Ceilice, tribe of Middle Asher, fifth in command."

"Ah."

Middle Asher sits near the capital and next to the human lands, they were known for their kindness to the women who came seeking their help. High level Valkyrie from that tribe were often married to royals, to help protect the women who came to them.
