Arrival at the Isle

June rowed in the eastward direction the kids had been going before, now with a location they needed to reach. They were searching for "the Isle with Snakes of Sand," but had so far been traveling through empty ocean space yet again. The kids had been out for hours already, and the late afternoon was upon them. May would often put the telescope up to her eyes to make sure they were still on the right track to the island, but so far, nothing had come to her sight. The kids were looking for a landmass that could possibly be the Isle with Snakes of sand, but nothing had come up — until now!

Looking through the telescope, May saw straight ahead, what looked like an island. There were moss-covered rocks that formed mountains and structures that slightly resembled serpents and snakes.

"Hey guys, look at this," she said to June and Elliot, who turned to see the island. "I suppose the Forge is past those peaks, but there's supposed to be a pass."

"The Cracking Pass, right?" said June.

"Yeah," Elliot said. "But I don't see anything."

"Do you think that's the Island with Snakes of sand?" May asked as they came closer to the island itself.

"Well, it's got sand, but it doesn't look like snakes," Elliot said simply.

"Maybe it's the rocks instead," June suggested.

The boat finally made it to the shore, and the kids hopped off to look around the island for anything that could be the pass. They all knew well that in all likelihood, they would see it somewhere behind the island, so they agreed to split up, each for their own spot around the isle. Elliot decided to climb some of the peaks that resembled the snakes the island might have been named after, so that's what he did. He had a bit of difficulty, but he thought that if May could do it, which she very well proved she could on the other island, then so could he. He was looking more toward the left side of the island, and found nothing but open ocean. The sun was starting to get in his eyes, and seeing as he had no sleep at all last night or all day, which had stretched to be very long as the afternoon was going by, he didn't want to deal with sun glare, so he slid back down the rock.

Elliot's feet landed on the soft sand, and he sat, feeling a little drained of energy after the day's events. His thoughts slowly drifted back to everyone at home; his parents, his cousins, his great uncle, and unsurprisingly, his little sister. Delilah had always been a light in Elliot's darkness, and now he felt a little lost without her. If only he had waited until the next morning for Scrooge, then he could've brought her on this adventure, but no. He had gone out in the dead of night, leaving Delilah in bed, and disobeying Scrooge.

"Ugh, I should've seen this coming," he said to himself, a hint of anger in his voice as he stood up. "It's Valta all over again!"

In his anger, he kicked a small stone. It hit what looked like a small, tan mountain of sand, close to another perfectly next to it. Then it twitched. Elliot's senses were heightened at this, and his emotions quickly transitioned from anger, to nervousness. The two small mountains ever slowly rose out of the sand, revealing a thick, tall cylindrical mass they were a part of. The mass rose several feet above Elliot, looking like a thick tower with a valley on top of it. As Elliot stood against the wall of the mountain behind him, the top of the worm like being turned, revealing what was very distinctly a snake's face, with a sandy forked tongue, and tall pointy fangs. At last, Elliot could stay silent and still no longer.

"AAAAAAAAAH!!!" he screamed as he ran from the mountain.

The sand-snake's eyes widened curiously, and it began to follow Elliot, pulling the rest of its body out of the sand of the island. Elliot ran and ran, terrified of being eaten by a snake made of sand. He ran around palm trees, trying to make it difficult for the snake to follow him, but it swerved perfectly through the path he took with no trouble at all. Elliot ended up back at the shore where the boat had landed, and found May and June climbing down one of the peaks.
