Jessie

It's my day off and Mollie stayed home not feeling well. It's been six weeks since the wedding and I had her take a pregnancy test. We were waiting for the results, laying in bed. I was resting against the headboard with her head in my lap. I was playing with her hair, waiting for the timer to go off.

I haven't known her long, but I've never seen her sick. Elliott had already left early for her detective's exam. She finally got the cast off last week and it was her first day back to work. The timer goes off and I pick up the test on the nightstand. A smile forms as a plus sign stares up at me.

I hold it for Mollie to see and she breaks into uncontrolled sobs. I rub her arm in comfort. She fought with a suspect last week, taking a blow to the stomach. She came home hysterical thinking her chance of getting pregnant was gone.

"Can we take a ride to get it confirmed," she asks in broken sobs.

"Of course baby," I say in a soothing tone and we get dressed.

It was a silent ride to the hospital and I called my mother before we left. I informed her we were on our way and she would be waiting for arrival. I rub her thigh in comfort and she takes my hand in hers, letting it a calming breath.

I pull into my reserved parking space at the hospital and I lead Mollie to the room my mother was waiting for us. She smiles lightly at us and helps Mollie in the examination chair. She reveals Mollie's stomach and applies the gel to her lower abdomen. She rubs the wand over her stomach and I hold her hand.

Moments later her baby shows up on the screen. "There's your baby," I say with a smile, pointing at the screen.

I look at her and her eyes were glued to the screen. Her hand was limp in mine and I bring it up to kiss her knuckles. "Can you print it out for her," I ask quietly and my mother nods lightly. "I'm going to take her home and wait for Elliott."

Me: Come home when you finish your exam. Mollie needs you.

Wifey🥰: Is she okay?

Me: Yes, just a little under the weather.

Wifey🥰: 😕 I'll be home soon

Me: 😘

My mother hands Mollie the printout of her baby and her eyes glue to the picture in her hands. I put my hand at the small of her back, guiding her back out to my car. I help her buckle as she continues to gaze at the small blip in the black and white photo. I kiss her temple before closing her door and getting in the driver's seat.

I get a call from Sarah through my car and I answer it. "Hey Sarah, what's up," I say softly.

"Hey mamas," she says in a chipper mood. "Are you busy?"

"I'm on my way home. What's going on," I ask curious as to what has her so cheery.

"I need your help with something for Jamie," she says and I could hear her smile from the other end of the phone.

"Is this about her birthday coming up," I ask curious.

"Yes," she says nervously. "I'll give you details when you get home."

"I'll be home in ten minutes. Just um, give Mollie some space when we get home. I'll fill you in when I get there if she's okay with it," I say softly.

"Hey, it's no worries. I know she's a part of your and Elliott's relationship," she says with understanding and ends the call.

I pull in the driveway a few minutes later and look at Mollie. She was still lost in the printout of her baby. "Baby, will you be okay with Sarah knowing about the baby," I ask in a soothing whisper, rubbing her arm in comfort.
