Jessie
Its Christmas Eve and thankfully Elliott and I have off from work. Skye adapted to living with us rather quickly. We've had a special bond since day one and I still haven't told Elliott what we talked about. It's not up to me to spill all of Skye's secrets.
She still wakes me every now and again in the middle of the night. We go down and have tea to relax her mind and talk some more. It's mostly small talk, like what she likes and doesn't like. She told me about her mother and what she misses the most about her. She told me that I often remind her of her mother and is why she seems close with me rather than Elliott.
I was sitting with Skye while Elliott and Macy went to pick up my parents and Nana. They were going to be staying the night with us in our new house. Elliott managed to find one a few days after Skye was dropped off at our door on Thanksgiving. We've been fully moved in a few days ago. There are plenty of rooms for Elliott and I to fill.
Skye was rubbing my stomach to help me relax for a nap. My bump was big enough that I can't fit into any of my clothes and was thankful that Elliott saved Miranda's maternity clothes. I was just about to drift off for a nap with Skye when I felt fluttering against her palm. Her hand stops moving on my stomach and the fluttering continues. I break into uncontrolled sobs and Skye was freaking out about what she should do.
She climbs behind me and rubs my stomach to try calming me down. She takes my phone from the nightstand and video calls Elliott. She starts signing at lightspeed and I was having trouble keeping up with her. "Just stay with Jessie, I'm leaving her parents house now. Just try your best calming her down until I get there," she chokes quietly knowing I never made it this far in my first pregnancy.
Elliott must have told her that without speaking because Skye looks at me with tears in her eyes. She ends the call and lays facing me again. She rubs my stomach like she was before and I let out a calming breath. She kisses my forehead and I close my eyes.
The smell of sandalwood fills my nose and I feel Elliott's calloused hand slip under my shirt to caress my stomach while I continue to fall asleep. I let out a content sigh and lean against her front. I get the fluttering feeling against Elliott's hand and she lets out a relieved breath against my neck.
"Is this why mommy was so upset," she asks in a soft whisper, smiling against my shoulder. "She didn't get to feel this with the baby she lost before you two. Daddy never thought she'd feel kicking again, it's the most amazing feeling during pregnancy. I can only imagine how mommy must have felt when she first felt you two."
"Elli," I murmur quietly as I snuggle up closer to her.
"Yeah baby," she asks quietly, kissing my cheek.
"Lay with me," I murmur in a sleepy whisper.
I woke up on Elliott's chest when we fell asleep spooning. I don't remember switching positions. I stroke the scar she got from Reese and she kisses the top of my head. I let out a content sigh and lean up to give her a kiss. "How bad did I scare Skye," I ask in a choked whisper.
"She came in after you rolled to lay on my chest. She's still snuggled up at your back," Elliott says softly and I look behind me.
She had her face pressed against my shoulders with her hand resting over my side. I look back at Elliott and she gives me a light smile. "I'll go fix your snack," she says softly kissing my forehead. She leaves the room and I roll to face Skye. Her face ends up in my chest and her hand resting on my bump. The twins kick her hand and her face pops up from my chest. Tears fill her eyes and I sign my apology. She smiles lightly and says she's glad I'm okay.
We head out to the kitchen and Elliott was finishing up cutting apples for us and giving me my yogurt to go with it. Macy was already eating her own apple with peanut butter. I notice Skye eyeing my yogurt and push the bowl between us. She smiles and dips her apple slice into it.
