Elliott
My captain let himself in minutes after what went down with Ryan. I was still trying to calm Mollie down. She's been sobbing the same thing over and over again, "You shouldn't have told him."
Her body trembling in my arms as I rocked her from side to side on the couch. Jessie did her best to hug at her back, whispering soothingly in her ear. My captain took one look at Mollie's state and looked at her with sympathy. His eyes flick up to mine and says softly, "Detective, the three of you can take however long she needs off. I'll handle Ryan."
He turns protective eyes to Mollie and says, "It's the least I can do as a friend of her parents, God bless them."
Hearing this, Mollie lets out a calming breath. I let out a relieved sigh and kiss both their heads. I lean back against the back of the couch and she held my hand to her stomach along with Jessie's. Mollie's parents were killed in a car accident, two years ago. I was the one there for her while Ryan was "busy" working a case. I think that's when we really started to develop feelings for each other, but she was married and I wasn't completely ready to move on from Miranda.
Jessie and Sarah look at us, confused and concerned about Mollie. "They were killed in a car accident a couple years ago, drunk driver. Jackson and I were the only ones there for her. Ryan was supposedly working a case, but I think that was just a cover up," I choke quietly, remembering how distraught Mollie was when we were having a girls night.
"He wasn't on a case," Jackson says as his eyes narrow in disgust as we learn how long he's been unfaithful to Mollie.
Mollie lets out a shuttering breath and her arms slacken from mine and Jessie's at her stomach. I reach up and tuck hair from her face only to reveal that she was asleep. I wipe away the tear frozen in place on her cheek and she nuzzles her face in my neck.
Sarah informs me through sign language that Jessie was asleep hugged at Mollie's back. I give a slight nod and Jackson takes this as a hint to leave. He signals he'll call later and I nod as he walks out the door.
Sarah sits beside Jessie and my mother takes Mollie's legs in her lap. Skye and Macy walk in, holding hands with concern on their young faces. "Are mommy and mama okay," Skye asks looking between both of them.
I smile lightly and look at Sarah for her to sign. "They're okay, just taking a nap," I say softly as Sarah signs for me. "Mama isn't feeling well, but she'll be okay."
She lets out a relieved breath and pulls Macy with her back to their play room. I let out a relieved breath and look down at Mollie. She is terrified of what Ryan will do now that he knows she's pregnant and with my child. It makes me wonder what all he's done to her in their relationship. Did he hit her? Verbally abuse her? Why is she so afraid of him?
I woke to Mollie stirring next to me, my face nuzzled on the top of her head. She scrambles from my lap and darts to the bathroom. I get up to follow her and held her hair back as she got sick on the toilet. She leans against me, groaning from the nausea.
I open the drawer under the sink and grab a ginger candy that I put in here for her. She accepts the candy and I gingerly rub at her stomach to help pass the nausea. "Did you sleep okay," I ask softly and she nods lightly against my chest. "You want to try eating something?"
"Will you make your apple pie," she asks in a wavering whisper and I kiss her head.
"Of course I can," I say in a soothing tone and help her to her feet. "Do you want to lay down in the living room?"
She nods lightly and I help her get comfortable in the reclining chair with Jessie. "I'm making apple pie, anything special you'd like," I ask caressing her stomach.
