The next morning I walked into school with whispers from group chats. Looking side by side I could tell today was not going to be good. Then I caught Claire out of the corner of my eye getting her stuff out of her locker. Not just her books but everything.
"Claire, are you ok?" I asked.
"Yeah I had to switch homerooms that's all." She said.
"Oh." My heart went back to normal. "The police searched my house last night."
"Mine too." Claire whispered. Then the bell rang.
I walked into homeroom and sat with our group. Seemed like the normal schedule.
"Am I the only one who had there house searched last night" Marilyn whispered.
"So far everyone's but Rachel's." I looked around for Rachel.
"Where's Rachel" Claire asked. Then our names were on the announcements.
We picked up our bags and books and quietly left the class. I could see everyone had nervous written on their faces as if they had lost their hearts.
We walked to the office where the lady told us to go to the conference room.
We entered the conference room and their was boxes stacked among two tables.
"What is this" I asked. We all walked around looking confused.
"Welcome ladies" Officer Smith hurried in the door as if he was late for something. "Have a seat"
"Make this quick" I demanded. "My dad doesn't like me to skip class"
"I've done talk to all of your parents and explained to your teachers why you wouldn't be in class today." He explained looking happy.
"Why are we here" Marilyn seemed impatient.
"Well, when the police searched your houses they sent me down here to question some things that are in these boxes" he points to the box.
"Why were we the only ones searched" Marilyn questioned him.
"Because we were the only ones there with her that night" he answered.
"It was a party" Claire jumped in. "We wasn't the only ones"
"Yes, but you all were close to her, am I wrong" he asked staring at us. No one answered for a while. Then he picked up gloves that were beside the first pair of boxes.
"In this box" he opened the top box. "Is what we were most concerned about"
We leaned over the box and saw a black jewelry box, a bracelet, and a black bag.
"Wow a black jewelry box and a bracelet so scary" Marilyn said sarcastically.
"That's not what I'm seeing" he gently takes out the bag.
"In this bag is a dress not just a dress the one Amy was wearing that night"
"How'd you know what she was wearing or if she even had a dress on" Claire asked.
"No one would have known that unless you was there" I concluded.
"Was you there that night Amy disappeared" Marilyn asked.
"Girls before you jump to your own little things. We saw a video tape of all four of you getting out of the car in the parking lot and we saw the party. We saw what you were all wearing" officer smith said.
"But Amy didn't ride back with us home" Claire said.
"No in fact we never got her on tape back In the parking lot" He said.
"So how did you see what she was wearing that night" I asked.
He laughed. "I didn't" We all got that thought. "Just guessed."
We went through the boxes of what they so called "evidence" and we were finally down to the last box. I look over the box carefully and saw a journal and my locket.
"Why is my locket in this box" I asked. "This isn't or has anything to do with Amy"
"One on the officers thought it was usable because of a story we heard about the locket" he looked so innocent in his eyes and disrespectful. I put the locket back in the box and moved away from the box.
