Chapter 13
There is a field of blood around me. My friends are bloody and rugged, Caleb in the battle field, dead. There is violence all around me, my friends being ripped apart. My magic was useless. I just stand in the mass and confusion. Then beast comes at me, and I do the only thing I can left, I put my arms against my face bracing myself for death. Then I wake up in a cold sweat. I can't do this, I'm just a kid. I'm in way over my head I can't do this anymore. I start breathing heavily, I freak out that I'm going to get all the people I love killed. I untangle myself from Caleb carful not to wake him from his sleep, grab some knives along with a bow and arrow, and I run off into the darkness.
I reach some rocks and feel around I sense a small cave nearby. I reach it, and I feel the silence over take me. I'm at peace, my breathing steadies as I leave my cave and gather some sticks to start a fire, I set up my fire like a teepee, and let my magic do the rest. I have a small fire started as it crackles before me lighting up the dark cave. A few bats hang above my head shielding there eyes from the light of the flames. I look over at the cave wall and see some carvings. I stand up and follow the story along the wall. The first picture is of a girl being left on a door step, then she is growing up, until she finds out she is a princess, the story goes on but then I suddenly hear a voice from the corner of the cave, it was just a mear whisper but I heard it, my throat closes up in panic. Small old woman steps out of the shadows to reveal herself. "What?" I say shakily.
"I said, that is you," replies the old woman in a gentle soothing voice.
She didn't need to explain more, I knew she was right.
"You know," The woman says, "Time ticks on and the sun rises and falls. Have you ever considered that hourglass around your neck? How is there always more of the Earth falling though? Its a small trinket, and you don't understand the amount of power it gives you. You underestimate it. You would be dead if you had done those spells without that hourglass. Why you have it? I'm not sure, its not your families and as people might've said it was. You royals stole that from the innocent. You don't deserve that power, it should be given to someone who would do something with it-"
"I'm doing the best I can! I'm just a kid!"
"And a child shouldn't be trusted with that power."
And that is when I cracked, I fell down to my knees on the ground and cried. The woman didn't seem to care. I haven't done enough, how am I expected to win a war? I know nothing of this Valley, I'm useless. Maybe I should jut kill myself. But I knew that wouldn't help, it would make anything I had built to fall apart and Lockern would be chaos, people would be blamed and killed. It wouldn't help anything. I look up with tears in my eyes, the woman gone. Where did she go? Was I going mad? The fire quietly crackled beside me still keeping the carvings alight. My tears burning my face, I had to do something, anything. I bang my head against the cave wall, and I touch my head, dizzy, when I remove my hand there is blood left on it. The pain numbs the emotions as I hit my head once more, and as the world fades around me, I see the woman once more at the caves entrance. Then she starts whispering something evil and smoke begins to wrap around me, bats fly out of the cave screeching, then everything goes dark.
