Chapter 1

Walking in the woods I hear the crunching of dead leaves underfoot. I was following an abandoned trail. There where building infested with vines and rats. One looked almost like a saw mill but I obviously hasn't been used in a very long time. Across the trail, from the saw mill there was a small cabin. The wood was rotted and corroded. These building where ancient. Where exactly was I? Why was I here? How did I even get here?! As I rushed though the woods panicking, my long dark hair tumbled down my shoulders. Then I realized that I can't remember, anything! Ok thats scary, I can't even remember my own name. As I cluelessly wandered though the dark of the forest I saw something move in the underbrush. I froze in my tracks, dead in terror. What could that have been? Thinking optimistically, I figured it was a deer and continued on. Although part of me kept telling myself that it was something more. Dangerous, deadly, something that could kill me before I even had the chance to scream.

While my mind scrambled around frantically to find answers, I continued to walk. Finally something clicked in my head, my name, I knew it, I was Katherine, and I was 16 years old. Well at least now I knew something but it didn't help my situation. Suddenly I hear a rustle of bushes again. I felt as if I was being watched, but not by a peaceful deer, my instincts told me to run, so I sped up my walking speed. I was now terrified. I was in the woods at who knows what time of night without even knowing how I got there . I needed answers not more questions! Then suddenly something jumped out of the shadows huge teeth snarling and blood thirsty. It was a wolf. I ran in terror, screaming uncontrollably, the I felt a sharp piercing pain in the back of my leg, it had bitten me. Then the creature pulled me in and I knew this was the end. The world ebbed away as I fell into a pit of forever lasting darkness.

Beep, Beep, Beep. What happened? I opened my eyes groggy. I was in the hospital. Connected to machines of all sorts. I hated the hospital,it has the smell of alcohol, and nail polish remover. As I tried to get up I felt a sharp pain shoot though me. The memories came flooding back, the woods the wolf all of it. But anything before that still wasn't there, I still had no memories of my past. Buzzing for a doctor to answer some questions I began to examine the damage the wolf had caused. I had stitches all over. I was terribly ripped up. Then the doctor came in and asked, "you called?"

"Yes" I reply weakly, "What am I doing here? How did I get here?"

"Well someone brought you in, he was tall, dark hair, brown eyes...he said he found you laying on Hartford trail. You where beat up pretty bad and your in ICU. At least your awake... this is very serious I would like to contact your parents do you know their number?"

"I can't remember anything except that I'm Katherine and I'm 16 years old."

"Mmmm..." the doctor mumbled, then jotted something down on his clip bored. My guess is he wrote down the word amnesia but I wasn't really sure. Then the doctor interrupted my thoughts and said,"ok I will leave you to rest." Then he left the room.

Roughly a hour later, I heard a buzz signaling that someone wanted to visit me, I was happy to have some company so I invited them in with open arms. About a minute later a boy with sparkling brown eyes, and jet black hair entered the room I immediately knew he was the one who saved me. "Hello, are you feeling better?" He came towards me and put something on my lips, then all the pain subsided from my body.

I was so stunned I couldn't comment on what had just happened. A sly grin spread across his face and I sat up feeling no pain. It was almost as if I where in a fairytale. "My name is Caleb..." He stopped for a moment. "I've been sent to tell you some news. You are the princess of Lockeren Valley, you control the hourglass."
