✧ ˚ ━ don't wanna keep secrets, act twoCHAPTER EIGHT — the battle of starcourt
✧
El continues to scream and tears fall from her eyes. I hear Erica talk, but I can't understand what she's saying. With Mike right next to me I hear him mention that there's something in her leg. Shit. "Keep her talking. Keep her awake, okay?" Jonathan orders, running off behind us. Mike starts trying to talk to her, but it isn't helping much. I tell them that we need to adjust her and we all lift, moving to the side a bit. Robin starts rambling about how someone on her soccer team broke their leg and how the bone was showing, but she recovered.
"Robin." Steve gets her attention. "You're not helping." The blonde starts apologizing and Jonathan comes back over. With a big knife, some gloves and a wooden spoon. He tells the girl that whatever he's about to do is going to hurt like hell and the kids look extremely panicked.
"I need you to stay real still." He instructs, more to me than to her. I nod, silently telling him that I'll keep her as still as possible. He takes the spoon and holds it out, Mike takes it and places it in the girl's mouth. The Wheeler boy then looks at me and I give him a reassuring smile. "You're gonna wanna bite down on this, okay?" Jonathan brings the knife to her leg and looks up at all of us. Mike tells him to do it and Dustin continues to spit out a number of curse words. He starts to slice into her leg and she lets out painful screams, her knuckles white due to the pressure she's applying to Dustin and Mike's hands. My grip on her shoulders tightens, as I keep her in place, hoping Jonathan finishes up quickly. Nancy shouts at him, as he reaches into El's leg, searching for whatever creature is in there. El spits out the spoon and starts yelling for the Byers boy to stop. He does and she tells us that she can do it, sitting up. I keep a hand on her lower back, rubbing back and forth softly, trying to soothe her. Eleven uses her powers to remove the strange creature from her leg, releasing a slew of screams that break the glass behind us. We watch it scurry across the tile, until Hopper crushes it with his boot. We find Joyce, Hopper, Sarah, and some guy with a beard and glasses in front of us. I stand and run over to my aunt, crashing into her arms.
"What are you doing here? What are you guys doing together?" I ask, pulling away.
"Well, I met with Jim at the station, and then went looking for a place to live. Found one, it's pretty great. And when I got back to your house, no one was there. Not even Susan or Neil." She starts. "And when no one came home, I figured that I would check the Fourth of July celebration. There, I ran into these guys and we sat with some Russian guy as he bled out, then came here because we heard radio communication about kids being at the mall."
