7th February 2017
Chaeyoung brushed off her school dress, fixing her skirt, easing all the creases. She fixed her yellow coat, brushing off the invisible dust specks present in it and pulled the cuffs staring at herself in the mirror. Fixing her tie and tying her hair into a low ponytail she let the locks of orange flow a bit, making a stark contrast with the neat school uniform.
She skipped the stairs fast, wanting to reach school early, as she took out the breakfast Jisoo had made for her before the other three left for an early practice so they could attend Chaeyoung's graduation. Gobbling up her breakfast she thought of how everything has changed.
Four years passed so fast, and now she was a senior, on her graduation day, her last day of school. The day it all ends! Chaeyoung exhaled slowly realising how fast she grew up. Slinging her school bag with only a file on her shoulder, she walked out to head to school, in her manager's car.
Getting down from the car, she walked amidst the crowd in front of SOPA. Sinking in every step she reminisced each of her four years at SOPA. Some of the crowd in the back went into a frenzy, seeing someone but honestly, she couldn't care less at that moment. Her eyes lined the building structure staring at everything as if she wanted it to engross her memory.
To be honest, a lot of memories were coming back, this place holds them. She found so many friends, and there were genuine ones, who will never leave her. The unpleasant ones, when her fake friends would ignore her or even the Jeongguk incident. But she did not care, she only cared about the happy memories.
She giggled at the thought of how Yera and she had language classes throughout the year, the only class they had together.
And that was the only class Yera and her new boyfriend had together too. He had threatened to kill them so many times because Chae sat with Yera before he could come.
All those times, now only memories.
She noticed Yera standing with her boyfriend as she strode towards them. "You are here?" Yera asked in a high-pitched voice which made Chae roll her eyes at her friend's antics. "I thought you would be performing somewhere and I will have free tickets, and present your graduation certificate there," she said.
"Please don't make me curse today," Chae said as they laughed. Then Yera began dramatically explaining how over-protective her boyfriend was as Chaeyoung smiled softly at her. She will miss this weirdo, this one which acted with Chae in such a way that it felt like they were dating. The one which would always be there for her simping hours, or even the three a.m. thoughts. This one which she never wants to leave, no she knows Yera will never leave.
Suddenly the hall became quiet as the announcer started speaking.
Meanwhile, Jeongguk was constantly looking up to check if his hyungs were present. They were all laughing getting endeared by his ways. They urged him to go meet his friends but he constantly declined the offer.
He rubbed his sweaty hands together as he tried to search for the familiar face in the crowd. Then he noticed her, standing with Yera. But he can't approach now, in front of his hyungs, he certainly didn't want them to know.
The graduation ceremony passed slowly as people cried, took pictures, and received gifts and whatnot. He slipped into the hallway and walked through it. So many days he had hated this place, but now it was his old friend, he didn't want to leave behind.
He visited his classrooms and finally entered IX-A, just to see Chae sitting on her usual bench as his eyes flickered over to the next bench- his place. He slowly walked towards her and said, "Move a bit Chaeyoung ah, let me sit."
This time however Chae let him sit as he sat down. A moment of silence followed as neither of them said anything but just stared at the other things in the classroom.
"Jeongguk if you ask for forgiveness I can't do that so if you have anything else to tell, anything but bringing up the incident," Chaeyoung sighed, she did not want drama on the last day of school and another person could enter any moment.
And she didn't want any scandal at the beginning of her career. Not a scandal of Rose and Jungkook.
"Good luck Rose of Blackpink, in your career, and you will get someone in life who will treat you right," he said sighing slowly as Chae and he both stood up.
"Same to you Jeon Jungkook of BTS," she smiled as they shook hands and parted their ways. They resolved to forget everything, hoping maybe this is the last chapter of their life with each other.
As Chaeyoung and Jeongguk walked out of the school, they looked at the school one last time, like all the other students who were graduating. They hugged all their friends and Yera even remarked she will never leave Chaeyoung's life even if she gets tired of her.
The juniors all greeted them with flowers and the teachers signed the various copies everyone had brought. Everyone was fearful of the leaving batch as their steps got heavier with each one. They wanted time to stop, to revisit all those years.
But that is not how life works, so now everyone will go their ways, maybe to college, maybe to other places. Some will meet only after twenty to thirty years maybe when life has changed its course. And just like that childhood ends on the last day of school, no matter how old anyone is, it just does.
And so life spent some years growing them up and sending them to this wonderful place, the best life, school life, which was now ending.
And thus on the last day of school, even though the bag only had a card and a pen it felt the heaviest.
