Chapter 12: Scented Promise

Espresso didn't get much sleep (like usual) as he was too concerned about Pumpkin. Was she really being serious that night, or was she being sarcastic? Ugh, children are confusing. But he started the day by getting breakfast. And there was something interesting he noticed. Nobody was at breakfast... But why? They're normally there. He grabbed a croissant and walked away, it was the only thing left. He figured they were all still asleep. I mean, it was about 5:20 am. He sat on a chair, eating it. As he did, he could smell something. It was... A nice, but deadly smell. He knew what to expect.
"I know you're there, Lilac. Get better at hiding." Lilac jumped from the ceiling, making Espresso even more concerned.
"Why on Earthbread were you on the roof?" He asked.
"I was making sure nobody died. Bird eye view is good, don't you think?" He muttered. Espresso sighed.
"I don't even know anymore." Espresso replied. Lilac spun his chakram in his hand.
"So is everyone else asleep?" Asked Espresso.
"I'd assume. The only one who isn't is Princess. And I don't think Raspberry is either. And Fig is also gone."
"So where are they?"
"Well I'm pretty sure Fig went to the indoor garden. Princess and Raspberry are near each other, I can sense it. No clue where though." Just then, Pastry came over.
"Greetings." She said, holding a bowl of cereal. She sat next to them.
"Oh, hey." Muttered Espresso.
"So about our alliance... I think we should have more people in it." She looked at Lilac once she had finished.
"Is this an invitation?" He asked.
"Of course. You aren't loud, you solved the last case and you seem like a survivor." He chuckled slightly.
"So we're a team of three?" Asked Espresso. They nodded.
"Alright. Just no more people, I'd prefer if this group was a secret and not so loud. But what will this group even do?"
"We all do different things. For example, I try to figure out who the mastermind is." Explained Pastry.
"And I'll prevent death. So... I'll protect those who need it." Said Lilac.
"Uh... I'll..." Espresso struggled. The two slightly laughed.
"You can practice that coffee magic. It could help us escape. And it's also very noticeable, coffee is a strong smell." Suggested Lilac. The three nodded. But to their surprise...
"Hey! Can I join your gang?" Asked Jellykuma. Very loudly.
"Shhhh! No you can not!" Whisper-yelled Espresso.
"Ohh? Why nooot? Because you're all against meee?"
"Yes. Now leave. Or else." Lilac threatened, holding up his chakram.
"Woah buddy! I'm going, I'm going! Don't take it out on me!" He ran away.
"Hmm, we should probably start investigating. And we can meet back here." Pastry said, walking away.
"I think Knight might know something!" Said Espresso. She walked up to his room.
"So Lilac, who were you going to protect?" Asked Espresso.
"Hmm... Possibly Fig. I'm not sure yet, I just think they'd need it."
"Oh, well you know where they are right?"
"Yes, so I'll probably go now." He walked to the indoor garden, leaving Espresso.
"Alright, time for some coffee." He went to the door and tried to destroy it. Buuut... It wasn't working. That wasn't entirely his goal though. He just needed to practice.
(A few hours later.)
A giant splash echoed through the halls as a lot of coffee fell to the floor. It was kinda slippery, but Espresso was still standing. He was proud of making a giant one, he'd never made something like that before.
"Great job." Said Pastry. He turned and was going to walk to them...
But he slipped.
He crashed to the ground, burning himself and hitting his face.
"Ugh..." He sighed. Then he noticed them laughing at him.
"Hey! This stuff is slippery! Shut it!" They were calmed a bit but still giggling at his failure.
"Well? How did your tasks go?"
"Knight didn't really tell me much. Just that someone's working we Jellykuma. Something we ALREADY KNOW." She said, seeming salty.
"Well Fig kind of... Wasn't there. They kind of disappeared."
"That's really bad to hear, especially now." Said Pastry.
"Mhm... So maybe they're dead." Muttered Espresso.
"Don't say that, we can't be sure." Scolded Lilac. "And how could you say that so casually?"
"I don't know, I'm at the point where I wouldn't be surprised." Said Espresso.
(A few hours later, Espresso met up with Knight.)
"Hello Knight, how is your research going?" Asked Espresso.
"... Someone's against us."
"I know, but is that all you want to say?"
"Yes..."
"Quit lying, we all know you're hiding something."
"Huh?! Hiding something? No way!"
"Then why don't you tell me what you've actually researched-"
*DING DONG DONG DING!*
"A body has been discovered in the basement I didn't even know I had!"
"... Oh no, who's dead now?!" Knight dashed out, and Espresso followed annoyedly. That was too convenient for Knight. But what shocked Espresso...
Was the sight of Fig Cookie covered in blood. There were stab wounds on their chest, hooves had been smashed with a hammer and they seemed to have been tied up. There were rope marks on their arms.
"Oh goodness! What on Earth happened to Fig?!" Yelled Mint.
"NOT FIG!" Cried Parfait.
"Hmm... They must have been tied up and tortured!" Said Raspberry.
"Heya guys! You've already made the correct conclusion, so I'm not gonna bother with the book!" Laughed Jellykuma.
"Why not?" Asked Blackberry.
"Because my printer broke! Someone stabbed it!"
"Good." Muttered Latte.
"That's not very nice, Latte!"
"DO YOU THINK I CARE?! I'VE LOST MY STUDENT, I'VE LOST MY MIND, MY FRIENDS ARE PROBABLY WONDERING WHERE I AM AND NOW ANOTHER PERSON'S DEAD!" She fell to the floor, sobbing heavily.
"Latte, calm down!" Said Mint, going to her level.
"W-WHY ARE WE EVEN DOING THIS?! WHY DO WE HAVE TO KILL EACH OTHER?!"
"Uhh... Classified information! But if you're gonna meltdown then are you even able to attend this trial?" Asked Jellykuma.
"I CAN'T EVEN DO THIS HORRIBLE GAME ANYMORE!" She ran out, leaving the others in shock.
"I think this games really gone to her head." Sighed Princess.
"Since Latte can't do the trial, I guess we must do extra hard work. But I've noticed something, there's not that much blood on the walls. So... Maybe Fig was taken here." Said Pastry.
"Lilac, didn't you see Fig earlier?" Asked Espresso.
"Yes, I recall seeing Fig when they were alive."
"So maybe you did it!" Accused Knight.
"Impossible, you're just accusing me because you know who the mastermind is." Responded Lilac. Everyone gasped, and Knight was stunned.
"Wh... What?"
"You know who the mastermind is. So tell everyone in this room right now. Who is the mastermind, Knight Cookie?"
"..."
"Knight, you know who it is?!" Asked Parfait.
"..."
"Tell us so we can leave. Not everyone enjoys being here." Said Blackberry.
"I know who the mastermind is. It's Lilac!" He said fast.
"Accusing me back? Hmm, that's interesting. If you refuse to tell us then maybe you're the mastermind."
"I'm not the mastermind!" He yelled.
"Then who is?" Knight ran out, slamming the door behind him.
"Suspicious... Maybe we should resist trusting him for a while." Said Mint.
"Can we back to Fig?" Asked Tiger Lily.
"I think we've discovered it all. Fig was tortured, taken here, probably died." Responded Raspberry.
"You ready for the trial?" Asked Jellykuma.
"Yes, I believe we know what happened."

Hey, it's been a while.
Remember what I said in my A/N? (If you're new here your probably confused, but the A/N was published before this chapter) I barely feel motivated to write this book. But I'll pull through for you guys.

Anyways, the Disney Collab is weird. I was expecting a Nintendo or Sanrio collab before this lmao. I really want Stitch and Aurora but sadly I don't have them yet. I actually have some cute images I got from my kingdom.

Why on Earth does her eyes look so weird???

Anyways I'll try to write this book to the end, and then I won't bother with Cookieronpa again. I'll probably post the planning for other books too. If someone wants to continue this series themselves, they absolutely can. I don't even care if you give credit because I'm sure a cookie run danganronpa isn't my original idea. I've left you all for months without an update, so I made this one interesting for you all!
