(quick reminder this story continues from when mithrah finally realises the man she kept running into was Michael)

There was a moment of silence.

She could tell Theeran wanted to ask what was wrong at her unfamiliar silence, but he patiently waited as she stared at the folder. Flashes of unwanted memories plagued her as she felt a chill even through her warm sweater.

With the chill came undeniable anger.

How could she have not known? How could she have been so foolish?

She suddenly felt as if the signs were so damn obvious and she turned a blind eye. Michael and she were always alone, weirdly alone with the exception of an oblivious worker. He had struck a conversation with Mithrah where someone else would have walked away without a second glance.

And his eyes. His knowing eyes as if he always knew who she was.

She looked at Theeran's awaiting expression, her gaze wide and wary. "Theera...I've met Michael."

He froze. "What?"

Mithrah sighed, knowing what was about to come. She dropped the folder on the coffee table no longer wanting to see Michael's face and shrugged. She had to defuse the situation before it worsened.

"Ah, it's nothing. I just -"

Theeran suddenly broke out of his shock and was near in her seconds. "You've met Michael?" She couldn't ignore the clench of his jaw as anger and worry took over his expression. "When?"

Mithrah winced. "Actually, it was twice." Noticing that he was just waiting for her to explain further without jumping to a conclusion, she continued. "Do you remember that jackass from the antique store I told you about?"

He nodded, his mind clearly racing as he stared at her. "That was Michael." He confirmed quietly with her as she dropped to the sofa with a nod. "What about the second time?"

"This morning."

"The man at the coffee shop?" He asked, his frame far too rigid to even sit down next to her. Anger radiated from him in waves that Mithrah couldn't even figure out what he was going to do.

When she nodded, his fingers rolled into a fist as he shook his head with a humourless smile. "He's known where to find you all along."

"We don't know that. We don't know for sure he always knew where I was."

"Mithrah, you were alone both times. That couldn't have been a coincidence." Theeran was pacing the floor as he shook his head at her. "Anything could have happened."

"Nothing happened Theera -" Mithrah started her hands reaching out to his but he didn't even notice. The playful gaze in his eyes was long gone and instead, he appeared the same man he was all those days ago when he first met Guna.
