"Shoot. Why are there soo many people?#!"
Y/N's heartbeat jolted up by the sight she witnessed from the top of the hill. Her sledge almost slipped out of her hold.
The Snow Buster attraction was crowded. Children with their parents, groups of high school kids, foreigners and local tourists with their GoPro, young and old.
"Why are they all looking up here?" Y/N lowly grumbled, scrutinizing the innocent people over her anxiety.
"Oh, God. What if my sledge flips? Wait, what if it stops midway? No. worse. What if my sledge ran off the course... that would be embarrassing."
The never-ending worst scenario manifested, reigning terror in her mind. Jeongguk picked up the sign on her face and in her words easily. With one hand, he rubbed her back, aided by his assurance voice to soothe her down.
"Relax my love. It'll be fine. We are all here for fun. Nothing else. If something happens, it is not going to be that serious." Y/N smiled weakly over his solace. "One out of ten people could probably be the worst at sledging. Even if you fail, you still won't make it to the front newspaper. On Tik Tok however..." He paused and pondered playfully. "Well...maybe—Ack!!"
Jeongguk groaned when Y/N feebly hit his arm, faking the pain by exaggerating a cry. But he stopped as soon as he noticed a genuine smile softening his girlfriend's face.
She'll be fine, he convinced.
A voice then interrupted them. "Alright, guys. See you down there! Bye!" Taehyung plopped down on the tube shaped-sledge and so did Eunbi. On cue, they pushed their sledge forward with their feet and away they slid down the hill.
The sound of their joyful yell and laughter was furthering away, but scanning the crowd again brought another assurance to Y/N. Everyone seemed to be minding their own business. No one cares about others.
"Alright!" She exhaled nervously. "Let's do this!" She cheered for herself, amusing Jeongguk by the chuckle leaving through his foggy breath.
Indeed, he will never be bored with her at all.
Y/N carefully put down her sledge. With her small butt, she almost fell through the hole of the doughnut-shaped sledge as she lay on it. Peering to her left, Jeongguk was already on standby.
"Hold my hand." He stretched out his hand for Y/N to hold. "Let's not get separate."
Y/N nodded. Her mitten-covered hand linked with Jeongguk's gloved hand. She felt connected with security, knowing that Jeongguk will never let her go. With that, she looked forward with a thumping heart of worry. The crowd in front look like a monster who was ready to eat them.
But she will not let them eat her alive. Not that day.
"Ready when you are my love."
After taking one big breath, she spoke with courage. "Ok. Let's...Go!"
By the push of their Achilles, the sledge was pulled down by gravity. Simultaneously, Jeongguk and Y/N slid forward. Jeongguk shouted to the top of his lung as Y/N shrieked at the unexpected huge wind slapped on her face. It was furious, but it sure increased her adrenaline level. Thrilled reigned her whole consciousness.
Thankfully, the slope was constructed at a calculated safe steep so they both enjoyed the whole ride down the hill longer.
Until the last point, they were still holding hands. Laughing their butt off. She enjoyed it. They both enjoyed it. She looked at the crowd and most of them didn't care much about these two. She felt at ease.
