CHAPTER ONE: TWO LINES

October 1977

Florence Bell believes in fate. She believed everything always happens for a reason. Florence believes everyone had been placed on this universe for a purpose. She believed that some knew their purpose and others didn't. However as she sat with her back against the bathroom door with her head between her knees holding back the tears from leaving her eyes she decided maybe there wasn't such a thing as fate.

Florence never thought she would be put in this situation. She looked up to her best friend Amara.

"Can I see it again?" she asked referring to the muggle stick she peed on that Amara had managed to get her. Amara passed Florence the pregnancy test. Florence looked down at the two pink lines on the stick.

"Are you sure two lines mean it's positive?" she asked her best friend worry evident in her voice.

"Positive" Amara replied. Florence's mouth dropped as she looked up at Amara as realisation crossed Amara's face.

"Oh god Flo, I'm so sorry. Pun was not intended" Amara exclaimed as she rushed forward to give Florence a hug.

Florence melted into her friend's arms and began to cry. "What am I going to do. I can't be a mother. I can barely look after myself. I..." she was cut off by Amara.

"Flo, shh. It's okay. We don't need to think about it right now. Why don't we go have a lie down" she suggested as she comforted Florence.

The two headed towards Florence's bed in their shared dorm. Florence and Amara had been best friends since Florence was a second year and Amara was a first year. Amara Lovelock was a muggle-born so when she was sorted into Slytherin there was an uproar. Florence had been the only Slytherin to stick up for Amara.

The two instantly clicked after Amara was being targeted by Snape and his band of goons. Florence had heard the commotion and had instantly thrown a hex toward Snape. She was lucky Professor McGonagall was near the scene and broke the fight up before it got messy.

Florence Bell was born a pureblood to Archie and Elisa Bell. The Bell family were a part of the sacred twenty-eight. Florence believed she had a blessed childhood until the accident. Her father had a love for all things muggle. He had recently bought a muggle car when the accident happened. Archie and Elisa Bell were instantly killed after being involved in a car crash. Florence was only 13 years old at the time.

Florence grieved for a period of time after then she moved on. She had her friends at school then she went to live with distant cousins in France during the holidays. It was in France she meet her other best friend Henry Partridge. It turns out they had been going to school together for four years and they had never met each other. The two clicked and on return to school Florence introduced Amara and Henry. The trio became inseparable over the next two years.

Florence woke up to see Amara holding a tray of food and drink.

"You're awake. Great".

"What time is it," Florence asked Amara.

"It's just past dinner time Flo. Here I brought some up for us. I didn't think you would want to go down there" Amara shrugged setting the tray down on the end of the bed.

Florence sat up and grabbed the tray inhaling the scent of roast chicken. She had not eaten all day after she threw her breakfast up that morning. Florence stuffed her mouth with the roast chicken and vegetables.

"Mmm so good" she uttered mouth filled with the last of her roast.

"When you finish your mouth full do you want to talk about it," Amara asked pointing to Florence's stomach.
