CHAPTER THIRTEEN: HALLOWEEN

OCTOBER 1977

Florence,

I must keep this letter short and I am entrusting you to keep this confidential.

I have left Ben. I have been suspicious for some time about his out of work activities. I am afraid my suspicions were correct and I caught him conversing with a known death eater.

I have run away and I am currently residing in a safe house. I must not tell you anymore as I do not want to drag you into this ugly war.

I am sorry I could not see you after your time in hospital.

Please disregard this letter after reading and do not reply. I will be in contact when I can.

Love

May

Florence gasped as she read the words her Aunt sent her. Her mind flooded with the images and headlines she had seen recently in the Daily Prophet.

Florence tried to deny the thought of her Uncle being a death eater. Sure he wasn't always the nicest man but a death eater, that was something else.

Florence furrowed her brows and shoved the letter into her pocket as she heard someone coming up into the owlery.

Even though Florence was a Slytherin pureblood she did not hold any of the values her fellow housemates did. She believed prejudice of blood purity was one of the biggest underlying problems in the wizarding world. It was the very thing driving this bloody war.

Florence's parents had brought her up to care and love others no matter what their blood was. Archie Bell however did come from a long pure blood family line who looked down on anyone who was not pure blood.

Archie Bell was similar to Sirius Black in a way. The pair both broke family stereotypes and took a step towards a more justice and fair world.

Florence was sure she was in shock as she had not even realized that she had walked all the way to the great hall subconsciously. She headed to the Slytherin table as she saw Amara push Henry over to let Florence sit in between the pair.

"I'm so glad you are back Flo, this wanker has been driving me insane" Amara complained as she pointed at Henry. Before Henry could reply with a nasty comeback he was quickly shushed by Amara hitting his back from behind Florence then pointing at the distressed girl.

"Holy shit Flo, you look as if you have seen a ghost" Henry remarked as he took in his friends ghastly appearance.

Florence did not take in what the boy said to her as she tried to concentrate on slowing her rapid breathing down.

"Flo, whats wrong?" Amara questioned as she waved her hand across the girls face trying to break the eye contact Florence had with the plate in front of her.

Florence was still unable to reply or move as her mind swirled with a hurricane of thoughts.

"Henry, I think she's in shock" Amara stated as she started to shake Florence's arm.

"Flo"

"Flo"

"Florence" both Amara and Henry called urgency clear in their voices. At this point the trio had started to gain attention of the few other members of the school who were eating their breakfast.

James was sat with Peter. James was up early due to head boy duties and Peter was up because he was starving. The two barley had said a word to each other as they were so invested in their own food.
