MACKENNA

My whole body feels so heavy. I feel as if I've just finished a marathon due to the exhaustion I'm feeling. And then, I heard muffled voices in the distance. Slowly, I open my eyes and am greeted by the unfamiliar, clean, white walls.

Where am I? This isn't my place.

My eyes were still adjusting to the light when I heard a familiar voice.

"Let me help you." Ryder hurriedly approached me as he saw me struggling to sit upright on the bed. "How are you feeling, Mackenna?"

"I'm OK. Where am I?" I replied. Tinulungan niya ako para makaupo ako nang maayos. Naglagay rin siya ng unan sa likuran ko pang suporta para nakasandal pa rin ako.

"You can't recall that you fainted while working?" He asked, his expression filled with worry. He sat on the stool next to my bed.

The last thing I remember is feeling nauseated and disoriented as I took the customers' orders, and my vision blacked out as I headed back to the kitchen.

"I do recall feeling nauseated before blacking out."

"How about now? Do you still feel sick? How do you feel? Is your head hurting? I'm worried you hit your head too hard on the ground." I let out a small giggle since Ryder speaks so fast when he's worried. Inabot ko 'yung kamay niya na nakapatong sa gilid ng kama ko at marahang pinisil 'yon habang nakangiti ako sakaniya.

"Don't worry, Ryder. I'm alright."

"Are you sure?"

I gave him a nod. "When you're worried, you're quite the rapper." I cracked a joke, and his face finally brightened up a little.

"I'm just really worried about you, Mackenna. I've told you a hundred times that you should never skip a break."

"But we're too busy. And I—"

"Even if we're busy." He interrupts me. His expression grew serious once again. "Never, ever miss a break again. Mackenna, you gotta trust us. I have the greatest employees, and we work well together. We have teamwork."

I let out a sigh and gave him a tiny nod. "Okay. I promise I'll never miss a break again."

"Good. Otherwise, I'll have to fire you." Sabi niya bago tumawa nang mahina. I gave him a playful glare and laughed along with him.

"Looks like you're feeling a lot better now." Sabay kaming napalingon ni Ryder sa biglang nagsalita.

A woman approaches us with a bright smile plastered on her face. She seems to be in her forties. She's wearing a white lab coat and a stethoscope around her neck. She's wearing glasses and holding a clipboard and a pen.

"Hello, Mackenna. I'm Dr. Ravichander." She extended her hand, and I gladly accepted it, shaking her hand, and smiling back.

"I'll wait for Savanna outside. I hope you don't mind me calling her." Ryder excused himself and rose from the stool he was seated on.
