Blakely told David she would get to school on time she just needed to take some time by herself before she went.
He hadn't noticed that she wasn't wearing her school uniform.
She ran through the streets and found her way behind the docks.
After a lot of thought, and a very little bit of sleep, Blakely had decided to skip school, she needed time to herself and knew David would make her go to school despite her wishes.
When the smell of salt filled her nose and she could see all the boats she stopped. A man sat on a bench, staring down at a piece of paper.
His brown hair and his outfit reminded Blakely of someone she had seen before. Even if it was dark then, she knew this was the Mad Hatter.
"You." Blakely said, venom lacing the word.
He looked up at her. He didn't say anything and barely acknowledged that she was there.
"Um, Jefferson, right?" She asked and took small steps forward. "Mad Hatter? Are you done kidnapping people?"
"I only did that because I needed someone to get my hat to work and I knew if I told her she would think I was..." his voice trailed off.
"Mad." Blakely said.
He glared at her.
"Wait," she sat down on the bench next to him, "your hat? Like, the portal hat?" She asked.
"Yes, I wanted to take my daughter and go back home." He explained to her.
"But there's a way to get the hat to work?" She asked.
"Not the one you destroyed." He threw his hand in the air.
"So, you're telling me I could make a portal?" She asked standing up.
"Look, kid. Magic's not my thing. Try your mother." He snapped at her. "Maybe she's got something in her vault of hers she can help you with." He suggested.
"Vault? What vault?" Blakely questioned.
"It's none of my business. Talk to her." He demanded.
"We're not really on speaking terms." Blakely sighed. "What's that?" She asked, finally noticing the piece of paper in Jefferson's hands.
He quickly folded it and shoved it in his jacket without giving her an answer.
"Your daughter's looking for you, isn't she?" Blakely said, after she got a quick look at what was drawn on the paper.
