It wasn't long until 'Nightmare' had returned with an ice pack wrapped in a piece of cloth as he believed it would be too cold to put directly onto his brother's head. When he arrived back at the tree he found his brother fiddling with a few flowers that grew at the base of it, "Brother, I'm back." He said to get his brother's attention,
Wish looked towards him, "h-hey brother, I'm surprised to see you back so soon," he said as he watched 'Nightmare' kneel down in front of him. 'Nightmare' ignored his greeting and asked, "where does it hurt?"
"I told you I'm fine, please don't worry about me," Wish said to which 'Nightmare' quickly disagreed with, "Not worry?! Wish you fell out of the tree and called me 'Nightmare'." He said as he put the ice pack on multiple areas of the back of his head.
"What were you even doing up there anyway?" he asked him, even though the two of them would often climb trees for fun, it was entirely possible for him to be doing just that, but something told him that wasn't the case.
'Nightmare' stayed quiet and watched as his brother stiffened up at his question, only adding more onto his suspicion.
As 'Nightmare' thought of the many possibilities as to why he was truly up there Wish couldn't help but think that this was his chance to give 'Nightmare' a proper childhood as theirs was spent protecting the tree that there 'mother' inhabited and it's apples, but when the villagers came around and built their homes it only added more onto their workload, stripping them of any kind of childhood they could've had.
This was his chance to at least try to give him one, he just had to find a way to ensure that the villagers wouldn't hurt him as they did in the past, or take advantage of him as they did himself.
If he was anything like the Nightmare he knew telling him wouldn't be the best option as he had always been the more cocky one of the two, he didn't need him making snide remarks towards the villagers, making this new job of his harder.
If he knew one thing about these villagers it's that they didn't like being called out on their behavior, if 'Nightmare' found out and called them out on it, history could repeat itself and he'll lose him again to that... Thing....
Wish silently cursed to himself as he realized he was going to have to lie his way out of this one, he silently apologized to his brother before telling him his half thought out lie. "I... Ummm... I-I wanted to get a better view of the village...?" He said as if it were a question.
'Nightmare' gave him a look telling him that he didn't believe him, and he didn't blame him, that was a horrible lie and the delivery of it wasn't helping. As 'Nightmare' was about to question the legitimacy of his answer Wish quickly changed the subject. "W-where did you get this ice pack? D-did one of the villagers give it to you?" he asked.
'Nightmare' looked at his brother, his suspicion obvious, but he decided not to press him for any more information as he was more worried about his well-being than answers at the moment. "No, it was actually a nice stranger I met we'll running through the village, I think he might have been a traveling merchant or something as I've never seen him before, and he had a lot of strange items with him," he said, after a few moments he spoke again.
"Though... They gave me a really strange feeling; it was like something in me was saying that they shouldn't be here and that something was wrong. I-I don't know if it was because of their fox-like eyes or sharp toothed smile... Whatever it was, I just didn't feel comfortable around them," he told his brother, trailing off at some points.
"I see..." Wish said as he tried to think of anyone he knew who matched such a description, but no one came to mind. "Next time you see them just let me know, and I'll see what could've caused that feeling," he said, curious as to who this strange person was as well.
