I wake up screaming

I wake up screaming. Something I haven't done since the initial weeks after the shooting. Alex comes rushing into my room, a look of terror on his face "you ok?" He asks and I nod, running a sweaty hand through my tangled hair "I'm ok. It was just a dream." I reply, my voice hoarse. Alex sighs and sits at the edge of the bed "if there was something wrong you would tell me right?" He asks sincerely. I lean over and grab one of his hands in both of mine "I promise." I say pressing a kiss to his hand.

"Good." He says leaning closer and kissing me on the lips "because we have work in fifteen minutes." I check the clock on the bed side table and curse "why didn't you wake me?" I ask leaping out of bed. Alex follows me into the bathroom "because you looked so peaceful." He replies leaning in for another kiss. I beat him away and shoo him out "I have to get dressed. Leave."

I hear him laugh through the bathroom door.

Mark, Callie and I are rushing down a set of stairs to meet our patients when Alex comes rushing to us "can any of you use me today?" He asks "I was supposed to be with Stark, but he wants to work with someone else." I shake my head, holding my charts close to my chest "I already have someone on my service." I tell him and he gives me a look of betrayal.

"Ouch." Callie muses and I look down at the steps below me "guys an ass." Alex adds. Callie shrugs "maybe heartlessness if a peds thing." My eyes widen and she turns to me "I didn't mean you, your the expedition." I roll my eyes playfully knowing what she means. "No offence but your girlfriend leaving town really screwed me." Alex tells the head of Ortho  "I mean I'm happy for the children in Malawi..."

Callie cuts him off "no you should be worried for them." I open my chart and start to write in it "right now she's making them fall in love with her. 'I'll unclear your palate, I'll unherniate your hernia. I'm here for you, I'm yours'" Alex snorts and jogs me playfully making me shoot him a glare. "And then someplace better will come along, Peru or India, and suddenly she's all I know I was helping you and I made you all kinds of promises..." Callie smirks and follows up "But I gotta go."

Alex and Callie laugh, I snort and shut my chart "damn guys try not to sound bitter." I joke. Lexie comes over and I clear my throat "I have to go and check on a patient." I say and Alex and Callie also make excuses to leave. None of us want to be around for Mark's pathetic excuse to get Lexie Grey back.

"Doctor Tearney!" I hear someone call, I look behind me as see Stark rushing to catch up with me. I stop and wait for him "I was wondering if you could help me on a case?" He asks clutching a folder closer to his chest. I sigh and hold out my hand "let's see it." I say coldly. I still haven't forgiven him after the Karev and Kepner situation.

He hands me the chart and I look over it. Grace Sheelan, 15, presented with distended stomach, nausea and dizziness. I flip through the test results attached to her chart and ask "did you check for appendicitis?" I ask. Stark wipes his mouth with his hand before answering "yes her white blood cell count came back low." I frown again and rub my forehead with my hand.
