Word Count: 3.4 K"Your daddy had a lakehouse
He had me paint it that summer sophomore year
Said I could stay for free
A coupon buddies, a couple weeks
You ride in in a little red Honda
And headed straight for the pier
Tank top and cutoff jeans
A little PacSun underneath
Who knew it was 'bout to be"
- "Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset", Luke BryanMatty's POV:
"All your dad wants is for me to paint the lake house? That's it?" I ask Luke doubtfully. It's not that I don't trust Luke, or that that's all Jim wants me to do, but it's surprising that he wouldn't take more advantage of me offering to help out, as long as I can stay at the lake house this summer.
Luke nods. "That's all he needs you to do. And he said it can take you all summer if you want, as long as it gets done before we head back to Ann Arbor." He assures.
I nod. "Okay. Paint the lake house it is, then. Is he okay with me moving in tonight? I get my dorm until Friday, but I want to get settled in, if possible."
"Yup. Just stop by the house and I'll give you the key. Dad said he left some instructions and the paint there for you, so you're all good. And Mom said she went grocery shopping and got some things, but she didn't know what you would like, so most of it, you'll have to get."
"Tell them that I said thank you. I appreciate it so much."
"Of course, man. Let me know if you need anything."
I arrive at the Hughes house a few hours later, and hurry up to the door. It's cold, and for some reason, I decided that packing up all of my long sleeves was a good idea. I should have known better. Even early June is cold in Michigan.
I'm surprised that Y/N is the one to open the door. She's Jack's twin, but she goes to school in South Carolina, so I wasn't expecting her.
"What are you doing here?" I ask with a grin as she lets me in.
Y/N just rolls her eyes. "I'm here to give you the key to the lake house. Everyone else is spending time out back, making s'mores, so you're welcome." She tells me sassily.
"You hate chocolate, anyway, so it doesn't matter, does it?" I retort with a knowing grin.
She scowls. "Damn you for knowing me so well, Beniers." She grabs the keys to the lake house from the counter. "Here are these. I don't know if Luke told you, but Mom bought milk and some of the other basics so you would have at least something to eat."
I nod. "Yeah, he mentioned. So, how long are you gonna be here?"
"All summer." She assures.
I nod. "Come hang out at the lake house. Just 'cause I'm staying there doesn't mean you're not invited. And you can stay over any time you want. Just don't be a stranger."
She grins. "Wouldn't dream of it, Matt. See you later."
I wave bye as I get back into the car, still grinning. There's something about Y/N that has always drawn me in. She's one of those people, I guess.

I'm finishing up painting for the day when I hear the sound of gravel crunching. A quick glance over my shoulder tells me it's Y/N, and just her. What's she doing here? And why aren't some of her friends, or at least one of her brothers, with her.
