"C'mon Sunny! You can do better than that!"
Sunny attempted(and failed) to get the ball in the hoop.
"Just not my thing..." he said quietly looking down.
"Hey! Don't beat yourself up too much, kay? These things don't just magically happen overnight, you gotta practice! And who says you hafta be perfect, just have fun!" Kel had that determined smile he almost always wore.
Sunny just stood there. What was he supposed to say? He was only trying to find an excuse to hang out with Kel, alone. But Kel dragged him into doing some one-on-one basketball game or something.
"Ok. How bout this, lemme show you something." Kel picked up the basketball and tossed it nonchalantly to Sunny. Surprisingly Sunny caught it, albeit very awkwardly.
Kel stood at- well Sunny couldn't remember the name of that spot on the court but it was in front of the hoop, supposedly an easy shot.
"Ok stand here." Kel waved him over, pointing with his foot to the spot. "Now stand up straight and hold the ball in front of you, Sunny no bend your arms... And-"
Suddenly Kel was behind him holding Sunny's noodle arms. Sunny felt his face heat up. "Kay so you're gonna bend your arms, then, make sure you hold the ball firmly, then throw it up, of course not straight up, but flick your hands in the direction of the hoop."
All while explaining this, which for once, Kel actually sounded like he knew what he was doing, Kel was touching his arms showing him what he was supposed to do. "Okay now do it." He heard Kel say while pulling back, his hands were now on his shoulders.
How was he supposed to concentrate while Kel was being so... Distracting!?
Sunny concentrated. It was hard having one eye to do this with, but he'd give it a try.
He lowered his arms, then shot them up, pushing his palms forward. The ball hit the backboard before rolling around the rim, before it actually went through the hoop.
"WHOOOOOOO!" Kel yelled extremely loud into his ear.
"Ah, Kel my ears..."
"Oop, sorry. But good, no, great, job Sunny! Knew you could do it!" Kel grinned from ear to ear. Even though Sunny's name was, well, Sunny, Kel seemed to be the real sunshine.
Kel placed his hands on Sunny's shoulders, of course, this time they were facing each other.
Normally this is where Kel would put his hand up for a high five, but, apparently, this wasn't happening.
Sunny, with his one eye, stared into Kel's brown eyes. Even though Kel was a bit of a dunce, Sunny still found him endearing.
Sunny leaned in a bit. Kel's breathing was unusually quick and shallow. Sunny tentatively reached his arms to Kel's shoulders. Kel leaned down a bit.
Then Kel's lips were on his own. He gripped Kel's shoulders. Kel pulled back. "Sunny! I-"
Sunny buried his face into Kel's chest, wrapping his arms around the taller male.
He liked the feeling of hugging Kel. He enjoyed hugs from his loved ones, each different in their own comforting way. Kel usually had firm hugs, leaning his head on top of the others.
Sunny pulled back. He was sure his face was red as a strawberry.
"Sorry... I just was-"
"Don't apologize," Sunny said blatantly in his monotone voice. He attempted to make something akin to a grin.
Sunny guessed this was the time to make his move. He tried to remember all of Hero's tactics.
Sunny had made lots of progress in the past year, with moving, as well as lots of therapy and some meds to regulate his mood and such. Visiting his friends made him happy, of course, it was bittersweet, but now he could make new memories, happy ones, not clouded with guilt or pain.
"Date me." He said, staring straight into Kel's eyes. No hesitation.
"I- Uh!? Sunny!" He jumped back. Now it was Kel's turn to blush. He waved his arms around frantically. "Sunny! Wha? You- I!?"
Sunny looked down. Now was the bit he hoped wouldn't have come. Rejection.
"Sunny... I didn't think you liked me like that... I mean don't get me wrong! I like you! A lot! I mean- Uh." Kel sputtered out.
Sunny looked up as Kel took his hand. He smiled. "Sunny... Be prepared... To have the BEST. BOYFRIEND. EVER! We're gonna go on so many dates and hold hands and go to movies and eat so much food and-"
Sunny couldn't believe his ears.
"You know, Hero said that it's rare for people to like each other the same way at the same time but us being so close it was practically destiny, which is weird to say but I did have a dream the other night where-"
Sunny kissed him on the cheek. Kel smiled, his face somehow turning more red. He looked cute in the sunset.
"You know, why don't we go eat some Gino's! How iconic! Our first date could be at Gino's! Also, Aubrey and her crew might be there which means she owes me ten bucks because she said I was too chicken to ask you out but lookie here were already holding hands and-"
