(y/n)'s pov

i was standing there with my older sister as i watched my house burn down with my father inside, as my mother made the stupid decision to go after and look for him and my older brother inside since neither of them came out.

it's been so long that i don't even know the girls name next to me. i don't know how old she is, what her name is, or even how she looks like. i only know she has long (h/c) hair and has bangs, but that's about it. her face seems blurry to me.

i watched as she ran and went to look for help, as i just stood there. i know i was too young and too dumb to even do anything, but i still can't help but feel that to this day, i could've done something to prevent this from happening, to prevent all of this.

a random guy walked up and he had this look on his face. it looked so familiar, yet me being young, i just couldn't place my finger on what was familiar. was it his face? the way he dressed? perhaps it was the way he walked. he just gave this creepy smile as the right side of his unibrow seemed to lift up at the sight of me.

"well hello, hello, hello."
he said, as he finally took his eyes off of me and looked at what used to be my house.

i just looked. no sign of any emotion on my face. i wasn't crying, nor did i show any remorse. i wasn't particularly happy either. just.. in disbelief i guess? it seemed like it was a dream. i don't really think that i actually comprehended what was going on, you know? i mean, i was 6.

i was only 6. the most i should be worrying about was how much money the tooth fairy was going to give me that night. instead, i'm stuck here. watching the only place i've ever really known just.. burn. to the ground. with my mother, father, and brother inside. with my sister nowhere to be seen. thinking back on it, i don't even think she even went to the fire department. if she did, then maybe they would've been able to help them. to help me.

as i was staring off into the bright hot flames that engulfed the house, i felt myself being picked up. that's when i noticed that the man had picked me up casually and began to walk off.

"wow. i expected you to put up a fight at least. dumb kid."

the man scoffed, then began to arrogantly laugh. i just looked over his shoulder, my head almost completely empty.

after a few minutes, it finally occurred to my tiny 3 year old brain that i had no family alive anymore. the thing i didn't understand was why this man was basically kidnapping me, and why i wasn't doing anything about it

i guess i thought that this was better than living on the streets. i guess i thought that because i had no more house, and no more family, this man could continue to provide a well enough life for me.

boy was i wrong. it did teach me many things that im glad to know now, however, i'll get into those later.why couldn't i be a normal kid? haven't i heard or stranger danger? he was right, i was a dumb kid.
