Mom drove me to school the next day while telling me the directions. I got out at the school entrance, taking my tote bag with me. Inside, the jocks stared at me as I went to homeroom. Noticing Chad glaring at me, made me pick up my pace. A tap on my shoulder had me glance at the person. I sighed of relief, it was Zeke.
He walked with me to homeroom and patted my shoulder. There was no one in the room, me pulling on Zeke's shirt, him meeting my gaze. His face lit up with warm eyes and a smile. Our lips connected together, a real spark fet from my chest. The black-haired man parted and glanced to the door, back to me. The sun's rays beemed through the window, getting in Zeke's eyes.
"You're something else teddy bear," Zeke brought up.
"If you say so," I answered.
A sound of someone clearing their throat came from the door. We glanced to see it was Chad. His eyes were locked on mine, a serious expression on his face.
"We need to talk," Chad told me.
"I'm busy right now Chad, can it wait?" I ask.
"Now."
"Chad, I'm busy."
"Now!"
"Don't you ever yell at me Danforth!"
"I just did!"
"Go away!"
"We need to talk, Ryan!"
"Out!"
"No!"
"Hey!" Zeke shouted to Chad.
"What do you want, betrayer?" Chad mocked.
"He's crying, can't you see?"
"I don't care."
"Give him a couple minutes."
"Oh, why don't you leave then?"
"No, you leave."
Chad stomped away as Zeke hugged me, my head on his chest. He was taller than me by a couple inches, making my head bury into him. The tears didn't stop falling out of my eyes. One of his hands rubbed my back. I let out a shaky breath and brought myself away from him.
"I'm ready to talk to Chad," I spoke, walking out the door.
My gaze went to his group, he noticed and walked towards the bathroom. I went in the same direction, a little nervous. Outside the boys bathroom the principal stopped me.
"Mr. Evans, your father sent a letter," he told me, handing it over.
"Oh, okay," I replied, the envelope in my hands.
"Are you handling it well?"
"Where's Shar?"
"About that, well she's in California now."
"What?"
"I know it's a shock."
"Why'd the letter even come here? If anything it should have gone to our new address."
"Not sure, have a good day."
"You too."
He walked past me and I entered the room. Chad had his back turned to me. Did I really want to do this? I wasn't sure. He spun to look at me, my hand gripping the letter a little tighter.
"What was that about?" He asked.
"It's none of your concern," I retort.
"I call bullcrap on that, tell me."
"I have a right to privacy Danforth."
"Ouch."
"What?"
"That's the second time you called me Danforth since our break up."
"Okay?"
"I still love you, Ryan."
"Oh get over yourself."
"Can't stop smooching Zeke I see?"
"Got a problem with that?"
"In fact I do, you will come back to me, I treat you like the king you are."
"Shut up, I hate you."
"Such a strong word Ryan."
"Whatever."
"You're mad because Troy is homophobic, but yet I'm Bisexual."
I felt a wave of cold run through my body. His statement just made horrible memories come back to my mind.
"Drop it," I commanded.
"I refuse, lover boy," Chad retorted, his finger on my chest.
"It's over, let it go."
"I will make you love me Ryan, do not make me hurt you to do so."
"Leave me alone."
I was about to leave the room when Chad hit me, knocking my body to the ground. My head hit the white tile of the room. Feeling Chad loom over me, I tried to crawl away. I got pulled back and flung against the opposite wall. My head tilted up, trying to focus on what was going on.
He walked up to me and covered my eyes with his hand. Some noise emitted in the room.
"Get out!" A voice yelled.
Chad ran away from me, soon someone came into my view. The hair and actions being done made me realize it's Zeke. He helped me up and I waddled a little to get to him. Being guided out, I could barely see that Zeke was taking me to the nurse.
"I'm fine, Zeke," I told him.
"No you're not, there's blood on your forehead and some on your lips," Zeke retorted.
Inside the office the nurse sat me on a bed. She glanced from me to Zeke. The room was full of tension, until she cleared her throat.
"What happened?" She asked.
"Chad got physical with Ryan," Zeke answered.
"Does Ryan need to stay away from him?"
"I think so."
"I'll phone the principal later, just get to class and I'll make sure he's fine."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Zeke was about to exit but I stopped him by saying, "Zeke wait."
He spun around stylishly and gazed at my face. A frown was present but he strode back to me, holding my hand. A small smile formed on my face.
"What is it?" Zeke asked.
"I have something to say," I tell him.
"And that is?"
"I love you."
"I... I love you to, Ryan."
"Be safe."
"I will. Do you want me to call your mom?"
"Sure."
"Can I... kiss you?"
"Hehe, go for it."
Our lips connected softly, Zeke being gentle not wanting to hurt me. This was our first kiss. I didn't care that I wasn't in the best state. If Zeke can handle it then he's the one for me.
He parted as I softly breathed in amazement. Getting to his feet, Zeke left. The nurse rolled her eyes.
"Young love," She muttered as she started to fix up the spots where I bled.
