This is set in Sonic Boom in a human(ish) AU.
The character's personalities have been messed with a little bit but majority of things mentioned are canon to the Sonic Universe.

"Knuckles, we need you to go get information." Sonic announced proudly, as if he made the plans, as he made his way over to the center of the room where Knuckles stood.

"Okay... Why?" He questioned, shifting his gaze between the Sonic and Tails.

Tails moved to stand between them, his mouth stretched into a comforting grin, "So that we can make our plans perfectly!" He bounced from the centre of the room over to his workbench, scanning the papers littering the surface.

"If we gather more information, we might be able to beat Eggman once and for all!" Tails continued to grin as he held up some papers containing different methods for defeating Dr.Eggman written in his messy chicken scratch handwriting.

"Yeah," Sonic replied, ignoring the few drawings he added to the planning papers," and we need you to go get the info."

Knuckles shuffled over to Tails' workbench l, looking at some of the papers, squinting as he tried to make sense of them.

"Alright, but what sort of info?" He turned to see Sonic's brow furrow and the corners of his mouth downturn.

"you'll know it when you see it!" Tails exclaimed, turning back to reorganize the plans and other files.

"Yeah sure, just go" Sonic's attempts to push Knuckles out of Tails' workshop were fruitless as Knuckles simply left by himself, before pausing at the door of the workshop, "I'll be back later"  Knuckles shouted, continuing on his route.

Tails and Sonic watched him turn the corner as Sonic walked over to Tails.

"I don't think he's gonna be able to do it.." Sonic comments.

Tails glares playfully at Sonic. "Have some faith in him, Sonic, he's not an idiot."

"He kinda is though," Sonic states as he walks out of the workshop.

Tails crosses his arms, a his face twisting into a pout. Sonic was usually like this but come on.

"Whatever Sonic, I'm going to grab some mints."
