Once we arrived at the hospital, they had to force Kirstin to leave my side. She was so scared that I would pass if she wasn't by my side. They rushed me into surgery. Mitch was able to get Kirstin to sit down beside him on a bench in the waiting room. Every now and then she would shudder in fear. It was thirty minutes before Scott couldn't sit anymore. He stood up and began pacing. Thirty minutes later he looked at the door and waited a few moments to see if the doctor would emerge, but no one came through the door.

Scott: I hope she's okay.

Kirstin shuddered again this time worse than before. She leaned into Mitch even more. He looked up at Scott, his brown eyes almost on the verge of tears.

Mitch: Scott, Kirstin can't handle the wait anymore. She's getting worse by the minute.

He looked down at the trembling Kirstin. He held her close and hummed a song. It seemed to have no effect as she shuddered again.

Scott: I know.

Suddenly the door opened and the doctor walked into the room. Kirstin gasped then buried her face into Mitch's side. He looked at Scott, with a look of dread. Scott shakily moved to the doctor.

Scott: Doctor Richards? Is she okay?

Dr. Richards: Yes. She's in recovery now. I thought I should tell you that her side was infected and if not removed it would have killed her without warning.

He paused as Kirstin shuddered again at the sound of me being killed. Mitch held her as close as he could without hurting her.

Dr. Richards: As I was saying, we were able to remove the infection and the dart. Unfortunately what took most of our time was removing the dart. The reason for that is that the tip broke off when we were removing it. But apart from that, she'll make a full recovery. Now she does have a deep puncture wound on her shoulder that will scar.

Scott took a deep breath as he shook the doctor's hand. His eyes shifted to Kirstin and he knew that he would have to ask the doctor when they could see me.

Scott: Thank you, Doctor. When will be able to see her?

Dr. Richards: If you-her can wait about ten more minutes then you should be able to see her. Now I will have to warn you, even though you can see her in ten minutes doesn't mean she is going to be awake.

Scott: Okay. Thank you for all you've done.

Dr. Richards nodded, walking out of the room. Scott sat down in the chair beside Kirstin and he put her hand on her back. He used so much gentleness because he was still scared to hurt her back where the water had burned her so severely. He gently rubbed her back and she looked up as tears streamed down her face. Her brown eyes were clouded with pain; emotional pain. She hadn't heard the doctor when he said that I was okay. She had blocked out the world when she thought that I had died during surgery.

Kirstin: She's gone isn't she?

Scott: No, Kirstie. She's alive and she's going to be okay. Dr. Richards said that she'll make a full recovery.

Kirstin, still trembling, sighed with relief as she leaned onto Scott; who had traded places with Mitch. The ten minutes flew by and a nurse came to get the three friends to lead them to where I was resting. Kirstin kept herself from running to my side or touching me. She slowly sat down and she gently placed her hand on my arm. Her thumb gently rubbed it as she smiled, knowing that I was going to be okay.

Twenty minutes later, I woke up and attempted to sit up; but Kirstin gently pushed me back down. I smiled at Kirstin, who gently wrapped her arms around me and hugged me.
