When I arrive at Mr.Blake's classroom, where my study hall is, I immediately smell something amazing. It reminds me of vanilla and pine, it's sweet but also earthy. The wonderful scent had completely captivated me. I didn't even hear what Mr.Blake said. He cleared his throat and spoke again, "you must be Scarlet, correct?" His tone was annoyed since he had to repeat himself.

"Yes, I'm Scarlet."

"Very well," he pointed at an empty table, "have a seat then."

I quickly walked over to the table, I sat down and scanned the room, trying to make sense of where that amazing scent had come from. There was no explanation, no candles or air fresheners. Maybe I'm just imagining it.

I was about to face the front when I noticed him for the first time. What shocked me most were his eyes, they were a stunning golden color. I had never seen anyone with eyes like that before. Something about them felt so familiar, and the way he was looking at me like I was the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.

That thought made me shake my head. I turned back around feeling silly and extremely egotistical. How could I ever think that? I know that I am considered attractive, I have a very healthy relationship with myself in that sense. But to think I would be the most beautiful person this stranger had ever seen? Crazy.

I pulled out my History assignment but couldn't focus on it. With the smell and the feeling that the guy is still staring at me really is distracting. So I pull out my notebook and flip to my wolf I started at lunch. Then it hit me, those eyes. They are the exact same eyes as the wolf from my dream. Which is impossible, I know. Rationally I am aware that the wolf from my dream is not real. But...

RING RING

The phone ringing brought me out of my thoughts. Mr.Blake answered the phone, "Hello," he looked up at me, "yes," pause, "yes," pause, "okay." He hung up the phone and looked back at me, "Scarlet, you're needed in the main office."
My breathing started to pick up, I could feel my heart start beating faster and my body started to go cold. No Scarlet, stop, it isn't happening again. It's just a phrase, it doesn't mean anything. It's not happening again. My hands were shaking as I gathered my things. I tried to stand up but my legs wouldn't hold me. I sat back down and closed my eyes, trying to make myself breathe.

"Miss Scarlet, are you alright?" Mr.Blake sounded concerned.

"I just need a second please," I could barely squeak out.

Breathe in, breathe out. You're going to be okay, it isn't happening right now, this has already happened. Breathe in, breathe out. I opened my eyes and saw Mr.Blake's concerned look.

"I'm okay, really," I said, and to try and prove it I stood up. My legs didn't give out and I started to slowly walk towards the door.

I could feel everyone watching me as I walked out of the room, when I got into the hall I pressed myself against a locker and tried to calm myself down.

"Come on Scarlet, pull yourself together, it is not happening again," I quietly said to myself.

I make my way to the main office, when I walk in I'm greeted by the same lady I saw this morning. She smiled at me, "Miss Scarlet, how was your first day at Darkwood High?"

I let go of a breath I didn't even realize I had been holding. See, everything is okay, you worked yourself up over nothing. I smile back, "it wasn't bad, all the teachers seem really nice."

"Ah yes, the teachers here are the best," she laughed, "I just wanted to check in and make sure everything went smoothly. Also wanted to let you know you can apply for opens, if you'd like."

"What are opens?"

"Oh. You must not have had those at your old school. You can apply so you would be able to leave school during your lunch or study halls, and seeing as those are your two last classes of the day, I'd encourage you to apply. Why stay in school longer than you have to." She laughed and shuffled through some papers, "here's the application form, you just need to have your study hall teacher sign in, I'll sign off for lunch, and you'll need a parent/guardian's signature as well."

She signed the form, then handed it to me. There was some information I had to fill out on the top as well. I thanked her then headed back to my study hall. When I entered, I saw those golden eyes watching me. I looked away and went over to Mr.Blake.

"Excuse me, Mr.Blake," he nodded at me, "Could you please sign this?"

I held out the form and he took it, glanced over it, then signed it. He handed it back to me then waved me off. The slight smile on his face tells me he's hoping everyone brings him this form to sign.

Back at my table I check the clock, only 10 more minutes then I can leave. Today wasn't bad but it felt like it dragged on a bit. I pull out my notebook and continue working on the wolf. Something about this drawing feels wrong, like I'm missing something. Before I even realize what I'm doing, I add myself to it. Standing next to the wolf, and reaching up for it.

The final bell rang and I stayed put for a moment, just looking at the drawing. It felt complete with me there. I felt someone walk up behind me, I turned and saw the golden eyes staring at my notebook. He looked curious and a little confused. I quickly closed my notebook and put it back in my bag. I turned my head to look back at him but he was gone. And I realized so was the scent.

I grabbed my bag and started to leave when Mr.Blake spoke up, "Scarlet, can I talk to you for a moment."

I stopped walking and turned to face him, he had a weird, uncomfortable look on his face, "sure," I replied cautiously.

"Your dad was David John, right?" He had a sad look on his face as he asked.

"Yes."

"I'm sorry," was all he said. He looked back at the computer and began working again. I turned and quickly walked out of the room.

Mr.Blake knew my dad? I mean I guess a lot of people probably knew him, he did grow up here. Still it caught me off guard. I didn't expect so many memories today. It's draining.

As I'm heading towards the main doors, I bump into someone. He stumbled a little and turned towards me, "why don't you watch where you're going."

"I'm sorry," I tried to give him a nice smile but he just growled. Literally growled.

"Do it again and I'll give you something to be sorry about," he stepped closer to me, trying to intimidate me with his size. Which was working. He's literally huge.

"Hey man, calm down, I'm sure she didn't mean any harm," Derek's voice came from behind. I turned around and smiled at him, thankful he stepped in. The other guy huffed and walked away.

"Thank you for that."

"Yeah don't mention it. Kyle can be an ass. He's always got something up in butt," Derek laughed and put his hand on my shoulder, "seriously though, some people around here have crazy tempers, it's best not to mess with them."

I looked at him confused, "but I didn't mess with him, it's not like I meant to bump into him, it was just an accident," I tried to explain myself.

"Try not to do any more 'accidents' then," he laughed and dropped his hand from my shoulder, "I'll walk you to your car, make sure you don't poke anymore bears."

I laugh and we walk quietly to my car, I unlock it and he reaches out to open the door for me. I smile at him and thank him then get in my car. He closes the door, waves, and then walks to what I'm assuming is his truck. I pull out of the school lot and head home.
